Lovely old property, excelent location in a lovely village. You can tell that this establishment was in it's day amazing, there is so much potential there. I read a previous review from someone saying something similar, needs to be hugged and loved, a tiny bit of attention to detail, and we would have an amazing place. It's grand and feel that way with super character. Please give it the love and attention your building deserves ? I want to be completely fair and say that we did not stay the night and it was our choice, we paid for the night stay but chose elsewhere. Our fault, we chose quickly as this hotel was close to a restaurant we wanted to visit in the next village. Real shame. It's nothing we disliked, but sometimes you just get a feeling something is not quite right, although, like I said, I want to be fair as we did stay the night. These are personal opinions. We struggle to find it as signage is minimal, the gate to car park is small, so beware if you have a large vehicle. We noticed a little bit of dog litter in the car park and, generally speaking, need a good tidy up externally. The welcome overall can be improved, it's fairly dark in there and also smells of cigarette smoke a little. We were taken to our room and left there without saying much apart from 'prego', and that was it. Strange, but each to their own, I thought perhaps it's a culture difference. Finally we are in the hospitality industry here in the UK and have been for many, many years, so comments above are personal opinions and views.

An ideal location for visiting the Italian Lakes and a wonderful family run hotel. Eating breakfast and dinner in the courtyard or drinks or just reading in the garden. Superb cooking. Room was spacious with sitting area and bathroom on one level and up to bedroom on an upper level

Owner would not turn AC on during a very warm September. Says he turned it off for the season. Lots of mosquitos on property. Rooftop not accessible.

Exquisite property, beautifully renovated and still maintaining its 500 year old heritage.

We had a wedding in Varese so chose to stay at this villa, in the superior rooms. The good; it was a vintage Italian villa with classic Italian decor. If you're looking for a villa in Italy then it's got that old vintage look. Antiques everywhere, high ceilings, old furniture. It looks very beautiful! Peaceful and quiet location Where do we begin; 1. Even before arriving, we tried to contact them on booking, a couple times to ask for information but no response. 2. Wi-fi; in both superior rooms there was no Wi-fi because the walls are too thick. Would have been nice to know this before 3. Not allowed to bring any food or drink into the room. Understandable since it's old but we weren't even allowed to bring water into the mini bar. Instead have to buy their water for Euro4!!!!! 4. The SAME key can open all the doors! We were able to open each others doors with our keys 5. The breakfast; BAD BAD BAD! Only a croissant with some toasts (both usually burnt/too crispy). Only one jam type. Can make your own boiled egg but that's it. No cheese, or cold cut meat. Water is not included in the limited breakfast (and no one tells you this. Only at the end when you're paying for Euro4 bottles of water) 6. DIRTY. The room was not cleaned properly. There was hair in the bathroom upon check in, dust everywhere. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. In fact on the first day our room wasn't serviced at all. We felt so uncomfortable 7. The service; TERRIBLE. I don't know if the owners just didn't like us as other reviews seem to say they were nice, but we definitely did not feel welcome AT ALL. We had to give them our exact time for coming home, or get a gate key which we were given with extreme hesitation. They kept our passports and left it out in the open everyday, anyone could just walk by and take them. Paolo the owner watched us 2 girls carry our suitcases up the stairs struggling and did nothing. At least some help or offer to help carry half the suitcase. We had to ask for aircon to be put in our room, which again we faced extreme sour faces. Paolo and his mother very much made us feel unwelcome in their place. There was just one lady with short brown hair unfortunately we didn't catch her name who had just started who was...

The place is like an old movie set and a little out of this world, I absolutely loved it. The potential; the sky is the limit but it is a little tired.. not in the I’m old and tired kind of sense but the “I’ve lost the energy to dress up and put in make up kind of sense;) I would have loved a little welcome prosecco in the courtyard and a little flower on the table of the outside patio. Again, the place is too marvellous not to be pampered.

house interior and garden the worst was that our booking it was forgotten so we were not expected. being the only customer found the door closed cold place , basic dinner (ham and cheese very expensive) breakfast very poor. Nothing like a pretended 4 stars hotel. Service below 2 starts. Staff did not excuse. Only the family grandmother did her best to save the situation.

    Very good

The breakfast was spare, but adequate. The setting was lovely, the service okay. Not the high point of the stay. Cereal that was more adult oriented, not chocolate pops. Cooking our own eggs was not easy. They ran out of yogurt one morning.

Paulo and his mother work very hard to maintain this beautiful, historic and artistic home. It truly was a feast for the eyes and the senses. Paulo was a wonderful host and we enjoyed a delicious aperitivo shortly after our arrival. It was a pleasure to take in the various rooms, decor and courtyards. I am thankful we discovered this lovely, unique hotel and to have met Paulo and his mother. We do not speak Italian and we felt very welcomed. Paulo speaks English and I appreciated chatting with him and learning more about his home and it’s history. If you are flying out of Milan I recommend spending more than just a night here. I wish we would have had more time to relax and further explore the lovely surrounding region. I found our bed and pillows were very firm / hard. If you are not bothered by a very firm bed this may not be an issue. There was an unprecedented June heat wave in Italy so that also played a role with the overall sleeping comfort. We had two rooms and one of the rooms did not seem to have a well functioning air conditioner. I do understand that when you choose to stay in such a unique, wonderful setting you may not have the “corporate” climate cooling systems and control. Overall I am very pleased we chose to stay in Paulo and his mother’s “ magical” home. Thank you.

We booked three nights bed and breakfast - there is car parking inside the walled grounds. This hotel is from the 15 century, it is a family owned home - if you like Escape to The Chateau and appreciate a wonderful historical building, then this is the perfect place to stay. We ate two nights at the hotel, Paulo (the son) cooked simple, tasty, Italian food which we thoroughly appreciated, sitting in the courtyard at the hotel. There is relaxing, laid back jazz music in the main areas and reasonably nearby, within walking distance, a super market, shops, cafés and restaurants. Very near to lake Varese, we were able to use this as a base to explore the lake. Breakfast is a very, very simple affair - you can boil an egg, fruit juice and hot drinks are brought to the table, together with a croissant to eat (albeit served with beautiful butter and jam) and some toasted pieces of bread (for the boiled egg).

When we arrived we were impressed by the amazing atmosphere of the hotel. Great designed and we felt like we arrived in a famous jazzclub around 1920. Wonderfull decorated and such a great patio. We had diner at the patio, which was so romantic and the diner was more then excellent. I have never had such a great risotto and pasta. It's absolutely one or even two Michelin-stars. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is great and it helps you immediately to relax. I felt so sorry that I already booked a hotel for the next night, otherwise we would have stayed a lot longer. We'll absolutely come back! The airconditioning in the room could be a bit better, but the good news is that there was air-conditioning.
