Hotel La Pioppa

Loved the staff. To walk in and be greeted by a friendly Italian face made us so comfortable. We only stayed 1 night between our cruise and flying out the next morning but the staff made this smaller, slightly old fashioned hotel, so lovely. I'd return in a heartbeat. There is a lovely little restaurant just a few steps away that serves wonderful Italian food. The young waitress from Albania was full of life and made ordered easy and we had lots of laughs. But we are seasoned travelers and we LOVE to travel so we take everything to do with travel with patience and laughter and when in Italy it is good to remember this, don't rush and don't get pushy with them, they are doing their best. Big hugs to them all! Because its a bit older, there were about 6 steps to navigate with our two large, heavy suitcases to get to the elevator and the elevator was fairly small. So we loaded the 4 bags into it and my husband went up with them and I called it back down and then went up.

We were charged an additional tax for Bologna of about 6 euros per person, which we were not aware of before booking.

Breakfast and the service at the main desk lighting in the room was confusing and strange

This is a family run 3star roadside hotel. 6-7 minutes drive to bologna center. Attended well, room cleaned everyday, towels renewed every day, never dusty (except unused safe wardrobe). Bathroom and wc with bidet is clean, hot water available 7/24. Breakfast is a delicacy with fresh baked cakes from the Signora the owner. Italian families stay frequently with their children one or two nights. 70 meters from a bus station. A convenience for people whom does not have a personal or rented car (unless you feel diatracted from the majority of immigrants in the bus, though I never felt so, they are cheerful and unattattentive to foreigners or tourists) There is a very fine restaurant with genuine Italian cuisine just minutes of drive from the hotel (Ristoranto Ballarini, ristoranteballarini.com) where you can find the perfect traditional dishes at a reasonable price. There was no central heating in our room so A/C unit had to be on all night long, no hotel sleepers to walk in room, no cattle and tea/coffee compliments in the room( but there is a professional coffee machine at the cafe/restaurant where you can supply any Italian coffee you may like) or tea. Outside is usually colder with and more humid, possibly from the nearby river Reno, than the town center.

Easy to get to. 24h reception. Lovely breakfast. Spacious and equipped room. Doors aren’t very well insulated which means you hear people leaving throughout the night.
