Hotel Cala Saona & Spa

Rooms are not big. We had to change to a bigger room and pay almost double for the room we liked but the room in the end was wonderful. A lot more expensive than we were expecting though. Views to the ocean are amazing! Although, they have these "shutters" in the balcony that block a lot the view... In the big room you could actually open them but in the regular tiny room it was a dissapointment. Breakfast is amazing EXCEPT for the fact that you have to order the coffee and staff is not always willing to take your order. And it takes ages to get a coffee. But the buffet was spectacular. Would really work on getting the coffees to the tables more efficiently. Good coffee by the way... GYM is tiny and you have to book a space... Not ideal if you want to workout.

Amazing view, delicious breakfast, beautifully decorated. The mattress wasn’t the best, felt a bit used, but not a problem at all.

Location - perfect place to watch a sunset and a stone’s throw from the Cala Saona beach. Rooms are very clean, comfortable beds. They also provided us with umbrella for the beach! Breakfast buffet is of very high quality. Cocktails are great, and the snack bar is the perfect place for a sundowner. Hardly any vegetarian options in the snack bar or the restaurant. Only two restaurants in the vicinity so have to go to the city for more food options.

The property is beautiful. the aspect is incredible. probably the best hotel on the island. Our stay at Cala Saona had its highlights, especially with the front-of-house staff, who were amazing. The bar staff, particularly the cocktail team, were brilliant and really added to our experience. However, I have to be honest about some concerning aspects of our stay. There were a few staff members on the premises who behaved in a rather odd and inconsistent manner, which I feel is important to bring to your attention. There seemed to be a noticeable inflexibility in certain situations, which made our experience less enjoyable. For instance, the pool attendant and the spa staff insisted that we put our towels in the black bag within the towel box. While this is understandable, they refused to give us the towel cards until the task was done to their satisfaction. This might seem minor, and I appreciate the need for cleanliness, especially post-Covid, but the way I was spoken to was unnecessary. I was made to feel as though I had caused a mess, even though most of the towels were not in the basket. To comply, I had to tidy up after other guests, which seemed unreasonable. Another incident occurred at breakfast on a busy Monday morning. After queuing for a while, we were finishing our meal when I asked a staff member if we could have some water at our table. We hadn’t realised that there were bottles available at the buffet. Unfortunately, I was ignored by the staff member. When my wife asked a few minutes later, she was told to go to the buffet, but by that time, the water had run out. When we informed the staff member again, she insisted on showing us, only to find there was indeed no water left. Instead of apologising, she returned to our table four minutes later and rather dismissively placed a bottle of water on our table without a word, eye contact, or any gesture of courtesy. This was quite rude and left a sour taste in our mouths. On Wednesday morning, another incident occurred outside the hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helped us with everything and always immediately. The hotel is located at beautiful Beach and the sunsets are beautiful. I loved that it was a little remote, yet close to the harbour / little towns / others beaches. The breakfast was delicious and we had dinner at their snack bar, which was absolutely fine for dinner, too. The pool is great and also the opportunity of going to a gym (which could be equipped a little better. You need to book time slots, which is less flexibel, but also means never more than 3 people!) While the rooms fulfil everything you need, I did find them a little basic in their decor (I assume that changes when you book a suite). One thing, I did not love, was that towards the afternoon and evening they played electronical / housy music, that was too loud. They turn it off by 10 though. As described, gym could have offered a little more.

Location, staff and breakfast were perfect! The rooms are too simple for the money you pay.
