There is a lot of potential for a very nice hotel and grounds, but 1987 was a long time ago. I understand blending with nature but grounds are unkept. Exposed electric wires along the walkways. Very tall weeds and grass around trees and post. The Lake House is totally overgrown with weeds and vines the back deck is overgrown and rotted. The room is well designed and quality materials, but has not been touched since the 80’s. Water takes 5 minutes to get warm. The a/c unit located in the closet sounded strained. The filter was so dirty it was being pulled up into the system. I killed 20 centipedes inside the room over two days and pill bugs roamed the bathroom area. There is great potential but will require work to reach. Could be a hidden masterpiece but appears to be forgotten by the owners. I would have loved to seen it when it was managed properly.

However, upon arriving we discovered that many of these perks were not available. We were told by the bartender that there is no longer a night cap (even though it was advertised on the website), there was water leaking out of our ceiling vents and mold was growing along the ceiling because of it, the pool was closed (not mentioned in the booking or on the website and it was obvious that it hadn't been opened in a very long time), the breakfast was dry and mediocre. It was a major let down. For the price we paid for the room we could have visited the Biltmore and had more fun.

This place was fantastic. The setting is truly dreamy and feels like something out of a movie. The mid-century modern architecture sits right along the river, surrounded by trees draped in Spanish moss, and the sunsets are absolutely beautiful. The staff were wonderful and helpful with every request we had. There’s also a beautiful, lighted path that leads you on a short walk to Middleton Place, where we spent our first day exploring the grounds. We were given a tour, which was one of the highlights of our stay. Our guide was hilarious, incredibly informative, and shared so much fascinating history about the property. Later that day, we had dinner at the Middleton Place Restaurant, and the food was excellent. On our walk to dinner, we even nearly walked right up on an alligator—which was definitely an exciting part of the experience! Afterward, enjoying cocktails at the lodge was the perfect way to wind down the evening. Between the beautiful setting, incredible history, wonderful staff, and peaceful atmosphere, The Inn at Middleton Place made our anniversary trip to Charleston even more special. We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable place to stay!

So peaceful and a great design in a beautiful place The included breakfast is awful. This country really needs to wake up when it comes to food, it's embarrassing. The restaurant at Middleton place serves great local food, why is the hotel breakfast all poison?

This place was a dream to stay at. The breakfast buffet in the morning was delicious and had great variety, the rooms were beautiful and the entire grounds were picturesque. The mattress was a little too soft but that's just a small nitpick. Definitely was a vacation to remember and one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed!

Beautiful scenery and lots of history Mosquitoes…my fault. I didn’t bring repellent

The best hotel I have stayed at. The room was extremely nice and very clean. Staff was very helpful and welcoming. Pool and breakfast were both great. The property was gorgeous.

Full hot breakfast, the gardens, pool and dining at the Middleton restaurant. Nothing

While the grounds are beautiful, the pool area could use some better upkeep. Overgrown grass and dirty sun loungers turned us off from spending more time there. Overall though we had a great relaxing experience and would return.

Our room was great overlooking the beautiful view of the river. If I have any complaints it would be the lighting in the room for reading is pretty bad. The insulation between floors really needs fixing. We heard every movement from above. The surrounding property though beautiful did need some maintenance. The outside part of windows clearly had not been cleaned in a long time. A real shame with such a beautiful view. The staff especially reception were exceptional. Having to walk to dinner, then another bldg for happy hour, and yet another for breakfast created a camp like atmosphere in the woods. Quite charming. The walk to the plantation gardens was a real treat. We would definitely stay there again. The peaceful ambience was wonderful. Oh did I mention all the horses?

Staff was great and helpful. Check-in didn't know what restaurants were nearby but was very professional and nice. The room was clean and super cute! Overall, we enjoyed our stay and loved how peaceful and beautiful the grounds were.

The buildings are dated and while it is a quiet stay and very peaceful, I wouldn’t recommend for the price point. It just doesn’t match the amenities.
