Located in the quiet hamlet of Littley Green in the heart of the Essex countryside, The Compasses is a Victorian Pub steeped in history and tradition. With free on-site parking and free Wi-Fi access for all guests, it also offers a bar and a restaurant. Each of the individually styled rooms at The Compasses feature an private bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, a flat-screen TV and complimentary toiletries. In the restaurant, a Continental and cooked breakfast is available in the morning for a surcharge. Muesli, yogurt and fresh fruit is also available. Using fresh, local produce there is also a lunch and dinner menu available. The menu also includes a ‘Huffer’ filled sandwich, popular with the locals. In the bar, a variety of local real ales are on tap. Beers, wines and spirits are also on offer. Surrounded by the countryside, there are a number of walking and cycling routes nearby. Stansted Airport is 14 miles away and Chelmsford is 17 minutes’ drive away.

Arrival and booking in very easy. Clean and tidy spacious room, but the weather and as main window opening directly onto the roadside & parking area meant room very hot and stuffy even with fan on. Food and service in pub great Only thing would be some better form of cooling or some form of external privacy screening so that window could be opened for ventilation

The room was very warm, struggled to sleep on the first night, so the second day we turned all the heating off in the bathroom as well as the main room and it was a lot more comfortable.

Stay at the Compasses several times a year. It's the best value comfortable en suite accommodation in mid-Essex and is attached to one of Britain's best pubs. What's not to like? Nothing.

Stay here quite often for work! This place is first class always clean smart quirky rooms! Staff in pub next door always happy and accomodating and proper old pub grub very reasonable. Always busy says it all! 10/10 from me. All Perfect!

Lovely staff and food, Paul in the morning was lovely Only complaint was that the bed was 2 singles together and could have done with a topper on so you couldn’t feel the join

The pub is lovely and the food great with really good service. The staff are friendly and the room was quite basic but clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast.
