There are resort stays, and then there are those magical little escapes that remind you exactly why Cebu remains one of the Philippines' greatest tropical playgrounds. Our recent two-night stay at the stunning Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan was exactly that – two blissful days of sun (some rain), sensational food, and family fun from sunrise to sunset. Nestled on Mactan's beautiful coastline, Crimson has set a benchmark for luxury island stays with its private beach, sprawling pools, warm Filipino hospitality, and exceptional dining experiences. Lunch at Enye by Chele Gonzalez was an absolute highlight. Chef Chele's modern Spanish cuisine once again delivered on every level, with beautifully presented dishes. Equally memorable was another visit to our old favourite, Azure Beach Club. Having previously reviewed Azure on ISLIFEARECIPE, we were delighted to discover that the beachfront vibe remains as irresistible as ever. With ocean breezes, chilled beats, tropical cocktails, and that unbeatable toes-in-the-sand atmosphere. Stunning. But perhaps the biggest smiles came courtesy of the legendary Crimson pool party. Picture this: sunshine, music pumping, children squealing with delight, and mountains of bubbles floating across the pool. It was pure holiday magic. Watching families dive through clouds of foam with cocktails in hand nearby was exactly the kind of carefree moment every holiday should contain - sadly rain and lightning did stop play... Crimson Mactan, with its great food, luxurious surroundings, endless family fun, and memories made by the bucketload is now a family favourite. We'll definitely be back for another dose with our friends at Crimson. Only thing I could say I didn't like was the resort's chatbot... you may experience the same...

There's not a lot of options for food. The pillows smell disgusting. And also the balcony has a pungent smell of urine.

As soon as you arrive you feel looked after and everything is explained to you really well. You are basically made to feel like a VIP. The rooms are a good size, clean and the distance to the beach + resort facilities is short. I think the snorkel and masks for the beach could have been cheaper to hire or the free period you have them for could be longer. Other than that everything else was good.

The hotel is really nice, smells good, clean, pretty quiet, cosy but in the same time full of life and the staff was really great, always ready to fulfil any wishes. The only negative thing I can say it’s that the gym was really tiny, with not a lot of options.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Crimson Resort. The resort is beautiful and besides our first day which was the Easter holiday weekend also not very crowded. The pool is quite nice although it the water was quite warm due to the weather and it’s not very deep 0.9 m for the kids portion and 1.2m for the remaining. So it’s more for chilling in the water than actually swimming. There is also a beach at the resort which is a nice place to lounge. The water itself is quite rocky so you want to bring swimming shoes for this. However, we were able to see different fish there while swimming which was very cool. We had a garden room and it was quite nice. Spacious and with a very comfortable king size bed. The rooms are not very well noise insulated though. We had children next door and one of them had a fit in the middle of the night doing a screaming match with their parents. We were able to hear everything very clearly. The resort has multiple restaurants for Enye and Aka reservations are recommended. These are more expensive and Enye even has a Michelin star. The food prices general in the resort were resembling European food prices. For Enye and Aka we paid around 2000 - 4000 Pesos per person for a dinner. The food however is also really good (we loved the paella negra - so creamy and the beef tataki, so in our opinion it’s worth visiting. Other than that you have Azure Club and Kalma for snacks and more casual dinner with ocean view. Here the food was also solid although their grilled fish was outstanding and in my opinion much better than the international dishes I had there. We paid here around 1000 to 1500 pesos per person for a dinner. The service is overall very attentive and good! Although sometimes they seemed to be a bit confused if something is in stock on the menu and service at azure was sometimes a bit chaotic if the restaurant was full. Service in aka and Enye is super attentive though. We also visited the spa for massage treatment which was great. While the food options were quite good I was missing an option to purchase some quick snacks like a protein bar or some fruit. Ordering the snacks would always take half an hour and I would have really liked to sometimes just grab a quick bite. While they did have some snacks it was mostly unhealthy such as chips or cookies. Also, we did not venture out of the resort but if I understand correctly there is nothing nearby in terms of walking. To get to supermarkets or restaurants you would have to take a taxi. While for the duration of our stay that was fine, it’s a bit annoying for longer stays to have limited food choices. So maybe pack some snacks yourself beforehand.
