The location of the hotel was an oasis behind the bustling seafront of Cunda Island. A beautiful pink stone house with hand-carved wooden features and stained glass windows, which had the comforting smell of old fashioned laundry soap. A garden with a lawn and rose bushes was much enjoyed by the guests, throughout the day, while the owner, Mert, went out of his way to recommend his favourite restaurants, cafes, beaches and museums in the surrounding area . Often, I would ask him a question during breakfast, (which took place in a pretty, light-filled sun room) about where we should visit, and a list would ping on my phone a few seconds later. On the subject of breakfast, the offering at Tas Bahce was unsurpassed. Around twenty little bowls and plates were brought to our table each morning: fresh ricotta, salads, olives, home-made cakes and jams, spoon sweets, simit, eggs, and endless glasses of tea from a samovar. Rarely has a stay in a hotel felt more like being looked after by the kindest and most assiduous host.
