Their valet in front of the hotel was blocked by cars and no valet to be seen. I drove around for 10 minutes to find a temporary parking to check in. I ended up parking in a bank parking lot. Concerned about my car, obviously. I walked in to the hotel and noticed the restaurant was closed at 6:00pm. Obviously not open today. Strike 1 Reception is on the second floor and I decided to just take the stairs. Pretty hotel. Went to check in and asked the bartender about the hot tub. Evidently two years ago the hot tub was replaced by a rooftop bar. Strike 2 I talked to the attendee about my car and asked him about parking. He said I could valet it but I explained that there was no space to put the car and he said that he would go move it from the bank parking lot. I said ok but what about the morning. He said that they could bring it up when I am ready. So I get to my room and I heard IT. What you may ask? You know when the smoke detector battery is dead, the nightmarish chirp. Yep, it happened. I changed and left to go to dinner. I stopped by reception and told them about it and he said he would take care of it STRIKE 3 Making me post this review But I recommend eating at Mezzaluna

We usually stay at generic corporate hotels, but it was cool to try out Hotel Donaldson. It's an older property that has been refurbished to be a boutique hotel. We liked the original artwork in the rooms (each room has a featured artist), the wine and cheese at 5pm, and the pastries and coffee in the morning. The rooftop bar was closed when we were there -- it would have been nice to have access to the roof to see the view. The location is great, right downtown and within walking of many bars and restaurants.

One little thing--I wish the restaurants were open, including the rooftop bar. The Irish pub on the first floor, Blarney Stone Pub, is closed on Tuesdays (bad timing for me) and the rooftop patio seems to only be open Thurs-Saturday. Regardless, I'll be back!

Great Downtown Location

Stayed at the HODO 3 nights. Location convenient. Hotel room clean. Shower nice. My only issues were it was hot outside and it never got below 72 degrees in our room even after having staff check thermostats and having our own fan in the room. Breakfast was carbs in a display case. No parking at all. Even to check in or out, you’re on your own on parking.
-
Great access to downtown Fargo. No parking close. Breakfast was available but very little selection. It was just a pastry and coffee. Rooms are clean, well laid out, and the beds are comfortable.

The room was clean, staff was friendly and we loved our stay. The location is always a bonus. We loved our staying here.

The suites were large and very accommodating. It’s an older hotel but they definitely renovated at one time to industrialize and modernize it. The only thing I had a problem with was as you enter the hotel there is a distinctive smell that bothered me.

It is beautiful and very comfortable.

Great hotel!! Our room felt like a little studio apartment :) We’ll definitely be back to stay again!

cool historic property. Just know that your room is going to face a busy major Fargo street, regardless of which room you are assigned. The rooms have no sound proofing. (more on that later). Fargo is a major motorcycle city in the summer, so, traffic and loud bikes, until around sunset, are it seems almost constant. Back to the noise. Staying on the 2nd level, the first level with guest rooms, the sound of the occupant in the room above me was also quite irritating. Whoever had that room seemed to walk the room for their exercise, and every foot step, the floor for them, the ceiling for me, creaked. It is of course a historic over 100 year old property. Would I stay there again? Probably not. I'll give them props for a comfortable bed and a great location downtown to access restaurants etc., but the street noise, and the possibility of a creaking ceiling is too much. try to get a top floor room if you can and avoid the sound of your above floor neighbor.

Staff was exceptional and always helpful. Roof top could have been open even if bar was not

Room three has a pain of glass in the window that vibrates and will wake you up. When they say they have valet parking, they’re not lying, but it’s not included in the price of your room. It’s $25 a night. They don’t disclose that. The parking garage around the corner is very convenient. The elevator is slow and the staircase is very dirty. Overall, the day was nice just a little pricey for what you get rooms are clean. Bed is comfortable. very walkable to all the restaurants and establishments in the area. It was a very nice day.
