I liked the size of the room, the view of the mountains from my room and the proximity to M.G. road. Almost all the staff were welcoming and helpful. The veg options at breakfast were good. The sausages and baked beans tasted bad but I'm yet to find a 3-4 star Indian hotel that serves decent non-veg fare at breakfast. Bilal at the front desk collected Rs 150/- as Sikkim tourism fee and then didn't bother to give me the receipt. When I checked in to the Elgin Norkhill, I had to pay the fee once again. It's not the amount but the principle involved when collecting someone's money. The receptionist at Elgin Norkhill promptly provided the receipt to me as soon as I repaid the fee. Bilal also collected more than 5K from me for a Christmas Eve's dinner for my family of 3 saying that it was compulsory. I knew that it was not but I paid and actually enjoyed the dinner and performances with my family. While I understand the efforts and costs involved to arrange for such a dinner, you should clearly inform your guests in advance and not at the time of check in when we're tired and just want to get to our room. The coconut cream in the cream roll that my wife ordered from the patisserie had gone bad. The chocolate cake that my daughter had ordered also tasted bad. The patisserie is best avoided. The first three issues that I had were minor in comparison to this one. The bathroom in my room no. 505 is at a height from the rest of the room. Before my last day at the hotel, I tripped, fell and severely bruised my left arm after a shower. While I was glad that I did not break anything, I was bleeding and in pain. This accident occurred because the Fern Denzong does not have completely sealed shower cubicles but instead, a half glass partition arrangement due to which, the water ran out to the bathroom entrance. When my wife contacted housekeeping staff the person mentioned that the hotel did not even have Savlon, Dettol or any kind of antiseptic to deal with a situation such as this. Fortunately, my wife treated me with our own medical supplies and creams that she always carries with her. Be cautious around the bathroom area and be advised - carry your own medication and emergency supplies. The hotel is NOT prepared to deal with any kind of problem that you may face.

Lovely friendly staff and centrally located Nothing

Breakfast had limited options. Live Dosa counter needs attention. Improper batter mix for Dosa and heavy idlies are surely a turn off. Other food which we had ordered tasted very good. Interrupted power supply and slow lift were spoilers.

My regular stay whenever I’m in Gangtok
-
Centralised boiler system for hot water for which u need to wait 15 mins and waste 2-3 large buckets of water to get hot water. Complementary food don't have that much non veg items

Though the location is quite near to Lalbazar but that's the only advantage. One of the worst hotel and management facilities experienced with a brand. Very poor services and amenities. Room service is pathetic. Staffs are lethargic and always bear a uncaring attitude, specially, Archana the front desk executive.

The location of this property is amazing. We stayed in junior suite room and had an awesome view of Khangchendzonga mountain range. Also this hotel is close by the MG marg. The staff were good. I loved the delicious food. ? this is my third visit to Gangtok and so far this is my best stay there. I am a lazy fellow - so, walking path from MG marg to the hotel seemed bit steep for me. But for trekking enthusiasts, it can be a treat. ?
