There's a sign on the steep hill leading up to hotel in Portuguese that loosely translates to "anything worth having is difficult to obtain" that sums up the ethos of this place quite nicely. It's a steep climb to walk up and down with a backpack and surfboard, but boy is it worth it! Situated on top of the hill with absolutely breathtaking views, this is the spot you want to be at if you want peaceful energy and nature. It's a 10-15 min walk to one of the best waves in the world or the really cool town of Garopaba. Couldn't ask for a better location. It's definitely on the rustic side, so leave the high maintenance girlfriend at home and bring the wife that can cook - the rooms have fully functioning kitchens with dining accoutrements. A coffee maker with complimentary coffee is always on deck. The host is absolutely incredible about being helpful and flexible with anything you may need. She went above and beyond to try to help solve my logistics hurdles during the busiest week of the year. I will definitely stay here again. Access can be tough and cell signal limited. Be prepared. There is great wifi in the room. Taxis seem to overcharge going to and from this place - while Uber is quite cheap, when it works. Average Uber to surrounding areas was 20-30 reais whereas the taxis never charged me less than 50 and often charged 80, blaming the steep hills for wear and tear. I'd recommend having a rented car if you're not fit enough to make steep climbs a few times a day, as there is plenty of parking. However, I thought these things add to the charm...
