Location Uncomfortable. Bed was in the floor. All chairs were upright wood chairs and all were uncomfortable.

It was like staying in an art gallery with curated paintings and beautiful decorations. Erik was so helpful with checking in and helped us with our luggage when we left. The location fronts a canal and is 5 minutes away from the historic center of town. His recommendation to go to Yuzu, the chocolatier was great and we enjoyed the food at the 2 restaurants on the same block. He was full of interesting information about Ghent and is an historian. Everything was great.

The location is wonderful and the property feels very luxurious! Erik is a prompt, friendly host. Everything you could possibly need is a short walk away. The mattress could be more comfortable but it was fine.

A sweet suite tastefully decorated with home furnishings, books and artwork. It felt like being home. Maybe not my home, but it felt more welcoming than virtually any commercial hotel room I've stayed in. The owner, Eric, dropped by to check if everything was alright and to offer breakfast. A kind man, and very helpful with info about the city. The self check-in process went seamlessly. Pre arrival texts offering access codes, transport info and exact directions to find the place (which isn't marked on the outside) were spot-on. Rooms (there are 2, it is a true suite) were generous sized and felt Street was busy during the day, the front room of the suite is visible to the public which gives you that "living in a fishbowl" feeling. There are drapes and grills to cover the windows, but then it blocks the canal view. A gauzy curtain or mesh screen might serve for better privacy. There is no shower, but a large sunken tub with a shower head on a hose. I didn't try either as I was only staying one night. The tub lacked splash curtain and I didn't see an overhead holder for the shower head so it seemed like it would be awkward to take a shower. Take note there is a restaurant right next door. Normally it is listed as closing around 21:00 but the night I stayed they were open til 01:00 for some reason. Eric informed me the next day that is very unusual. Despite this the room was surprisingly quiet. The only bothersome part was occasional whiffs of cigarette smoke, but even that was infrequent and I didn't feel like I was being gassed out. (I have a sensitive sense of smell.) These negatives are IMHO really small compared to the quality and ambience the room offers. Would not deter me from renting again if I return to Ghent.

Comfy room and bed. Lovely bathroom. Water and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Fabulous breakfast. The location was spot on.

We really had a wonderful stay! The owner was very nice and quick to answer our questions when we had some. The location could hardly be more central, only a few minutes by walk to the Korenmarkt. The living room is amazingly decorated and the whole place filled with all kinds of interesting books about painting, history etc. The room was incredible, with the most comfortable bed you'll ever see, and a bath behind thin curtains to relax in the light of candles...we definitely recommend it! Nothing, all was perfect!

By far the best way to explore Ghent.

Location only It was terrible, unfortunately. I paid 224€ for two nights. I slept one night and left. I didn’t sleep the second night. It was dirty, old, and had a terrible design. There were a lot of random items and colors. Everything was very bad. I do not recommend it.

Amazing Welcome. Easy and very friendly. Plus the place is so peaceful (room at the ground floor) with a steam facility and a nice backyard. Thank you. none

B&B Schopenhauer is centrally located next to some great restaurants, bars and cultural locations. It's a perfect place to stay during a holiday in Ghent. Schopenhauer is both comfortable and unique, it's a really special place to stay. The hammam was top notch. We also felt very welcome. We met Eric briefly and he was really lovely. His recommendations were great. We will definitely stay again if we visit Ghent in the future.

We loved the location, the house style, the bathtub, the host. We enjoyed everything!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights at Schopenhauer, split between two very different suites. Both suites were spacious, comfortable and fun! There were books and pieces of art in both suites which made our stay interesting and enjoyable. Each suite had particular features - the sunken bed in the first one was very comfortable and the shower and outdoor space in the second one was great. In all the accommodation was great and added much to our visit to Ghent. The location of Schopenhauer was really good for exploring the city. A very few minutes walk took you to the heart of the city - the castle, the bell tower and cathedral.

Good location alongside the river. Clear instructions on how to park, find the place and enter. It's clear the host tries hard to please with this property. This room wasn't for us. It was listed as a honeymoon suite, and we took it only because of the location. The bed is sunk into the floor which makes getting out of it or making it up awkward. There is no shower, only a bathtub, which is large and comfortable but the absence of a shower without a curtain is problematic.

Great location to access the centre, canals, trams, bars and restaurants. Very busy bar next door, very small wc,I prefer to have a stand up shower but had to sit in the bath to shower. The bed was a novelty but was difficult to get up from.
