Hotel Sun Hitoyoshi is a very nice place to stay. It's centrally located in Hitoyoshi, making it an easy walk to most of the main restaurants and attractions. When we stayed in late March 2026, there were groups of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese golfers and sightseers staying at the hotel. I traveled with my wife and 20 year-old daughter, so booked a double room for us and a single room for my daughter. The hotel upgraded our double room to a Crown room without my requesting it. This made for a very pleasant stay, as from our room we looked out from the 7th floor over the river and the castle ruins. Staff were responsive and helpful, without a fault. Consider these gripes rather than strong criticisms. I'm accustomed to sleeping on a mattress with a bit of give in it and a pillow top as well (say firmness 7.5 / 10), while the mattresses in the hotel were much more firm (9-9.5 / 10). I flipped over my futon / duvet atop the mattress for a bit of extra 'give', and between that and the top sheet, with the bottom end of the futon wrapped over my feet, I was able to sleep comfortably. The bath towels are relatively small and thin. The Inax bidet toilet seat in the bathroom was doubly obnoxious. It sprayed water when requested, but that water didn't manage to clean. Also, the toilet lid automatically rose at the slightest provocation, which quickly became irritating. There didn't seem to be any way to stop it moving aside from completely turning off the bidet toilet. If you're going to install a bidet toilet, make sure that you get a Toto! Be aware if you're coming from overseas that there are no grounded electric plugs in Japan, so you'll need to have some sort of adapter if you have, for example, a North American cord with a grounded plug.

A modern hotel with a good sized room. Located next to the Kuma river the room had a beautiful view of the river which was ideal for a walk or run along it. There was free parking at the hotel if you arrive by car. The staff was always smiling, friendly and helpful. There are drinks machines located on several floors. The duvet consisted of two parts; the duvet itself and a separate sheet under it. As the duvet was rather smooth and inflexible, when you moved only the sheet followed and quickly got all crumbled up; very annoying. Would suggest replacing the sheet with a duvet cover.

The space was large enough to place our 2 luggages. Slippers, hair dryer, water kettle, hair and body products are available. hairdryer was strong enough for my long hair NIL
