Excellent location right next chairlift. The restaurant inside the hotel is also available for reservation. Which is great if you don't want to walk outside to the cold at night. There are rental shops right next door and at the hotel as well. The hotel also offer discounted lift ticket.

Very close to the ski lifts. You walk right across the street and snowboard or ski down to the main lift area. Nice Onsen and room was spacious. Breakfast buffet had a wide variety of food. And the owners were very kind. It is a little bit of an older building with older furnishings but overall it had everything we needed. No complaints.

If you want to stay and ski at Madarao Mountain Resort, this is the place to stay. We were skeptical when we saw the reviews vs. the pictures share. You can stay at a nearby hotels, but you won't get the feel or experience of staying in a Japanese family home. We were pleasantly surprised before check-in. Watanabe-san was waiting for us at the bus stop, to take us to the property in his van. Facility is very skier/snowboarder friendly - separate stair case down to the ski room where you can store your equipments and dry your gears. From the lobby, you remove your shoes, just like you would went entering someone's home. Slippers are provided throughout. Rooms were very clean, comfortable, and while the heaters looked old, they worked liked a charm. The comforters were fluffy, and warm. Bathrooms in the room, on the property were clean and inviting - shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body shower were all nicely furnished. Towels are in the hallway, so you take as many as you need. We took advantage of the property's public bathhouse in the basement, Japanese jacuzzi (onzen), everyday, after skiing. Most westerns didn't know so we practically had the jacuzzi to ourselves everyday. Breakfast was included, and it was plentiful (Japaneses & western, with eggs cooked to order). Dinner although you have to pay, they were cheap, delicious and again western and Japanese options. One evening, they missed one of our dishes in the order, they served late after we notified them. They waive the charge for the dish and gave us free dessert. Thank you Watanabe-san. Madarao resort lift and its ski rental (Shirakaba) are basically across the street, so definitely convenient - ski in/out. We would stop by the Sundeck (bar/restaurant) for beer and snack with live music at the end of the day, before returning to the property. Hands down, I would recommend this to anyone skiing at Madarao Ski Resort. Nothing at all.

The location is amazing !!! Very close to the ski field , less than 1 min walk. The rental shop is just next to the hotel which is super convenient. We have breakfast and dinner in the hotel. Very yummy N/a

We enjoyed our stay in this pension with Tatami mats. Good breakfast variety, good wi-fi, very friendly hosts, good Japanese dinner choices. Separate gender onsen in the basement to ease those aches after tearing up the mountain. Not too far to walk uphill to the main lift. Lift ticket prices very reasonable. Is too much snow a negative or positive we had to be dug out a few times. We need to learn more Japanese instead of relying on Google translate. Any negatives are well overcome by the generosity of our local hosts. Limited dining choices in the sparse village and NO ATM in town. Not really anywhere to hang out for non skiers other than accommodation. The Madarao Kogen Hotel is the main bus stop and has a small cafe in the rental shop with a good view. Limited buses to and from. Not all lifts operating mid week but can still get around OK. All the chair lifts are way too close to the ground, 300mm is not high enough for my dicky knees, I need to load sideways.

The host and crew were all warm and friendly people. The room was clean and functional, and is exactly what you see in the pictures. The accommodation and its surroundings have all the basics you need for a successful ski trip. The most amazing thing is that it is like 30 metres from the nearest slope! I loved how there is an onsen in the public bath room to relax at after a long day on the slopes. Also loved the daily breakfast spread that gave me a sense of home and familial warmth. Thank you for the hospitality!

The location is amazing: across the street from the Madarao chairlift, and ski rentals (English speaking) next door at Chill Madarao. The Japanese host family was very hospitable. The amenities were very good: ski gear storage and drying room; gender-specific baths in the lower level; laundry; complimentary beverages available in the lobby all day long. Breakfast buffet had a nice combination of Japanese and western foods, with fresh options to cook sausage and ham for yourself or have the host cook you eggs. Our group of five arrived on two different days. The host was extremely kind and offered to pick up the rest of my family on the second day late in the evening at no additional charge. The included toilet and shower in our room was very convenient. The floor futons were a bit thin, so maybe uncomfortable for side sleepers. The kerosene smell from heaters is strong in the common areas, but this is common in comparable accommodations.

This is an exceptional property and a fantastic host. It suited our family of two adults and two children perfectly. The rooms were clean and comfortable and warm. The location is directly across from the ski lift so you can easily ski and ski out. There is a boot dry room which works exceptionally well. The food, both included breakfast and the optional meals at night, is delicious and showcases some great Japanese cuisine. The on onsen on the lower floor was a great way to relax after a hard day skiing powder snow. The host was exceptionally helpful making telephone calls on our behalf tracking down our luggage and dropping us to the bus stop when we checked out. When we return we will definitely stay again at this property. Highly recommended.

The Japanese family that runs this business is very friendly. The daily breakfast options were great and the location is the best in the area for being able to ski and walk to nearby shops and restaurants. Support this business. They work hard to ensure a quality experience. I do not have anything negative to report from this trip. It was fantastic.

Lovely hosts and an excellent breakfast with different options everyday. You could not be closer to the ski-field! Lovely in-house onsen. Very quiet.

The breakfast had a really big range of tasty foods to try, you can buy discounted ski litt passes there and the owner drove us to iiyama station which was really helpful!!

Beautiful homely charm. Hosts are amazing and helpful, always smiling and willing to help. Close to the main bus drop off, a 3 minute walk if that and our hosts dropped us back to the bus stop on departure. Couldn’t ask for a closer start to the ski run. Fabulous buffet style breakfast included and we ate in the restaurant most nights after not finding anything that compared as far as taste and value went in the village. Onsen was an absolute treat after a long day skiing. Washing machine free to use. The shared drying room is perfectly adequate for all guests. Room was spacious with two beds downstairs and a loft area for the kids to sleep. Waking up to a beautiful snowscape out the window was great too. Nothing at all. Although when we landed there was so much snow it was a little hard to actually find it…. ? I had read that there were no fridges in the rooms, there’s not, but there is a communal fridge, hot water urn and extra supplies like towels out in the corridor which was perfectly adequate.

Lovely lodge in a great location. The family running it are incredibly helpful. The loft room was a good size for our family of 5. Excellent breakfast. Discount lift tickets - loved our stay here.

Father and son trip. Had a family room booked and heaps of room for 2 people. Breakfast great every morning and right in the slopes. Mostly traditional Japanese house and everything you require in one place. Even drove us to the shuttle bus considering it was only 150m away (it was snowing heavily though) Not much to be honest. Great stay.

Location is awesome (next to lift No.1) rooms are spacious, own onsen, amazing breakfast and incredible staff running the place.

This has been our most favourite ski lodge location ever!! So close to the lift, amazing managers, tasty food and huge rooms with ensuites, yet all very traditional Was just perfect
