All of my trip on one side, and my experience at Gatsby on the other. It was truly unforgettable. Gina, Riccardo, and the entire staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and kind. Gina is exactly the kind of person who makes you feel like you have family in Johannesburg. She genuinely cares about everything, even making sure your commute goes smoothly. Everything was perfect. She invited me for tea on my first morning, upgraded me to a fantastic room, and made me feel completely at home. The property itself is beautiful, and the food was excellent. I had dinner there, and it reminded me of Christmas family dinners—warm, comforting, and full of love. Thank you for making my stay so special. I can't wait to come back! ❤️ Nothing

A most beautiful and historic property with a charming atmosphere, situated in a lovely neighbourhood. The owner, Gina, and her staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and always available to assist. We stayed in one of the mountain-view units, which offered absolutely magnificent views over the northern suburbs of the city. The trees and gardens created a tranquil and peaceful ambience — a pity we only stayed for one night. Our unit provided all the amenities one would need in a self-catering unit. It was spacious, tastefully decorated, and the bathroom was practical and newly refurbished. Everything was spotless, the Wi-Fi was fast, and security was excellent. The mountain units do require climbing quite a few steps, so they are best suited to guests who are reasonably fit and travelling with lighter luggage. That said, the views were absolutely lovely and well worth it. We will most definitely return, although next time we will likely book a room in the main house or coach house, as these offer easier access without the steps. All the rooms — whether in the main house, coach house, or mountain units — are beautifully decorated, and we look forward to returning for a longer stay in order to fully appreciate the wonderfully preserved historical interiors. We had a truly fabulous stay. Nothing.

The hostess and staff was very friendly and attentive. The buildings and decor live up to the Grey Gatsby name and theme. The lovely bathrooms and furniture that gave the place character. If u read and watched the book The great Gatsby than you would appreciate the home and the furniture and every piece of decor. Beautiful kitchen . Nothing ..

I loved everything about The Great Gatsby, from the magical interior design and beautiful surroundings to the lovely host, Gina, who made me feel right at home. I've never stayed in a place that made me want to return so badly.

Everything - the surrounding, inside the building, and my room? Nothing at all

The Gatsby is a beautiful peaceful place. The decoration of the house feels like it's taking you back in time in the best way. The room I was in was beautiful, an artists dream. The only thing I didn't like so much was the inconvenience of not being able to make myself a coffee at any time of day since there are no kettles in the rooms. They do serve great coffee though upon request.

Beautiful home with lots of attention to detail. Gina is an excellent host who constantly panders after her guests. Nothing

Everything was perfect! Gina was very welcoming — she upgraded me to the lovely library room and made sure I was taken care of during my stay. Breakfast was delicious and everyone I met (staff members and other guests) was kind. I was only here for one night, but found it a very relaxing break from my work trip. I will definitely come back (and stay longer) next time I’m in South Africa! N/A, everything was great!

“A colossal affair by any standard—it was a factual imitation of some Hotel de Ville in Normandy...” The Great Gatsby is a lovely randlord mansion on leafy Munro Drive in Houghton Estate, chockablock with antiques from the Roaring Twenties. Hostess Gina Gabriel, who has owned the house for a couple of decades, is a charming ranconteuse who provides wonderful conversation and advice. The Library is an excellent choice, just next to the Boudoir. Highly recommended!

What an utterly gorgeous heritage house that has been restored to period perfection! It felt like stepping into a 1920s time machine. I stayed in a small room within the main house and it felt incredibly cosy. Very comfy bed and the view from the window was so wonderful I refused to draw the curtains closed! It felt like staying in an exotic botanical garden. Several spaces downstairs lend themselves to sitting in comfort over a book or quiet conversation, though I hadn't time to indulge. Parking and unloading was in a private, secure area, on the carriage drive in the front of the house. Booking.com doesn't mention that the least expensive room has a separate, albeit private, bathroom. For me this wasn't a bother as it's only a few meters from the bedroom to the loo, but it might irk some visitors! The owner graciously invited me to upgrade to a room with an en suite, but it wasn't necessary!

we absolutely enjoyed the peace and quietness of the place, the furniture was amazing

We came back here after a Kruger Safari. We were upgraded to a beautiful room in the Eagles Nest, with breathtaking views of Johannesburg. Mike was amazing, helping us with luggage and offering drinks, and Gina was as lovely and obliging as before. Cannot recommend this place highly enough, absolutely stunning place to stay. Nothing!

Gina couldn't have been more helpful. Accommodated a very late check in, offered food, early breakfast etc. Place was beautiful, well kept and spotless. Staff are all lovely. Genuinely the perfect base for us in Johannesburg. We liked it so much we are going back after our safari! Nothing. Perfect.

The location was perfect for the art fair I was attending. The facilities were excellent and the staff accommodating.
