Stoney Creek Hotel Des Moines - Johnston

Our stay was.. not the greatest. I can usually excuse a couple stray hairs in a hotel room (can’t catch them all), but it seemed like I was finding hair everywhere, and pubic hairs on the towels. However, the most annoying (and embarrassing) part of the stay was an issue with plumbing. The night of the stay, we needed a plunger, and I would think any hotel would be able to supply that. However, I called the front desk who said they only had one plunger (for the entire building) and that it was missing. I was told I would have to wait until the morning when maintenance could come, but “luckily” (her words) my room was near an elevator that I could take to use the restroom. This was frustrating; who wants to use a main bathroom in the early hours of the morning? I’ve worked in a hotel before, and there was always an emergency maintenance member, just in case. When we checked out, I mentioned the plumbing again, and I was curious about why they had one plunger for the entirety of the building. She said that they “had thirty, but people steal them so it’s easier to just have maintenance come.” I am curious how the nightly deposit on a room doesn’t cover plungers when they go “missing,” and I am also concerned their bookkeeping is subpar; there’s no reason that they couldn’t check these out to people and threaten a charge if unreturned. I felt as if I inconvenienced them by needing this, even though we couldn’t use a basic amenity during our stay. Won’t be returning.

There were two insects in my room, a silver fish and small moth, might help to spray occasionally Breakfast was good Room was comfortable Glad there was a freezer in frig as I had ice packs I wanted to keep frozen

Theming and decor was great, but even better was the cleanliness. While some areas were under construction/repair, it was evident that repairs were being taken care of.

Great location and nice room

Rooms were smaller than we expected. Didn’t like the wood laminate floors. Carpet is cozier. Breakfast was good. Smoke alarm woke us up at 2:00 in the morning the first night. False alarm. The next morning early the garbage truck woke us up.

A reliable motel we frequent! Nice place.

Room was spacious, clean and the bed and sheets were heavenly! Should've looked at what brand those beds were so I can get one myself!! We had a wonderful time and plan on booking there again next time we're in the area!

*there was mold in the walls of our room. *the ventilation system was either off or not functioning. Our whole room was damp. * our room smelled musty. *the hallways smelled musty.

Excelente estancia, la habitación estaba perfectamente limpia y adecuada, muy confortable, el desayuno estuvo excelente.

We were not able to use pool or hot tub because they were closed for maintenance. The reason we booked at this hotel was because it had pool and hot tub. Also, still haven’t been reimbursed the $25 additional that they charge for incidentals that is suppose to be credited back to credit card.

It was a cozy atmosphere, beds were very comfortable. There was some construction but it was not loud just a little dusty near stairwells. Overall, would stay again. The hot tub was amaze!!!! I would have given a higher mark for cleanliness but the pool had hair and other debris that were unpleasant to swim in.

Our room which was located in the cottages was nice, broken toilet seat we had told front desk they said would get fixed but was not taken care of. We had all of our kids there as well that rented 4 other rooms they stayed in the hotel and all had bad experiences with mold, air conditioners leaking and bugs. Staff tried very hard to accommodate them with giving discounts and moving rooms but overall it was a rough couple days for them. Breakfast was decent but the juice was undrinkable as it tasted like nasty water. The pool was amazing.

Clean room. Nice property. The only thing that wasnt perfect was the water for the hot tub in the room. It took a while to fill up. But still, would definately stay again!!
