Hotel Shanker-Palatial Heritage Kathmandu

A very nice stay. This former palace is both grand and intimate ; a beautiful backdrop for weddings and conferences (both of which occurred during our stay). Our room was modern, spacious, and comfortable. All staff members were professional and helpful. The breakfast buffet was extensive with many choices. I loved the pool area that had its own bar and restaurant and enjoyed both snacks and a light dinner by the pool. Being a former palace, be aware that the driveway is a bit of a walk just to get to the street if you have any mobility issues. Also, because of the nearby embassies and the palace grounds, Google is not accurate in its walking directions and times so be prepared and add extra time for any journey by foot to the nearby attractions. We found Uber and InDrive to work well for the longer distances. The hostess desk at the entrance to the restaurant during the earlier breakfast hours was often not manned. On our first morning at the hotel, we literally were wandering around the dining area calling out to see if they were open because no one was around. We discovered on our own that you had to walk all the way down a large empty dining area and turn right to find and enter the main breakfast area (which was amazing).

The buffet breakfast was amazing. Many choices. If you go away hungry it's your fault. Loved the pool area that had a bar and restaurant. Many shady places to sit. Guest rooms very spacious. Walls were soundproof. Appreciated the full liter bottles of water. Thank you for arranging box breakfasts for our early departure at 430am. Walking distance to Thamel area and the Narayanhiti Palace. Overall excellent stay. Can think of nothing.

Old rooms very short space to roof … worse pillow I have tried in my life // place are total empty and still the security gonna force you to park at a special place .. it’s super old place and smell not best ether.. not worth it at all

The hotel is located at one of the most quiet area of Kathmandu. It has a nice, large garden with a swimming pool. Thamel is only 20 mins walking but after the first attempt, we preferred to use local taxis as it is almost impossible, I would say even dangerous to cross the busy roads especially during the night. The hotel staff is very polite, friendly and helpful. We tried the massage and it was great too. The breakfast is buffet and there are plenty of options to choose from - European, Asian, American. If you need to leave early morning you can ask for a breakfast box. There are often events in the hotel (birthday party, wedding etc.) but it is not disturbing if your rooms are on the upper floor facing the backyard. Hot water is always guaranteed and AC is working properly and quietly. There is daily cleaning, the bedding and the towels are clean and fresh. The restaurant is very nice but it is in the basement. We had no issue with it but you need to take some stairs that might be inconvenient for people with moving issues.

Location, style and spa Had ti change room as first one had almost no windows. Small window at floor level, uptoo waist, no view. Secondroom not yet refurbished, though in need of. Unfortunately back courtyard view

I had such a wonderful stay in Kathmandu, Nepal. The hotel staff are very lovely and kind people. They made me feel so welcome and safe from the first day. The food was delicious and always fresh. The service was excellent and everyone was very helpful and smiling. Thank you for making my stay At your hotel in Nepal so special. I highly recommend this hotel! Nothing everything is exceptional

Breakfast was just exceptional with a wide variety of food, both western and local. All the staff (from the front desk, restaurant to the housekeeping staff), were polite, friendly, and helpful whenever I asked for any assistance. As this was my first trip to Kathmandu, the front desk staff and their kindness and assistance made it very easy to find my way around the city. The bathroom needs upgrading as the toilet, sink etc. looked dingy. The business center was not located in a quiet place. As I was on a business trip and had to take some meeting there, it was too loud and therefore unpleasant. If not for these two negative aspects, I would give the hotel a ten rating.

Being in a large green space in the middle of a city with bad air pollution is wonderful.

We were not allowed to unpack outside food inside the hotel such as restaurants and the bar area even we had order drinks from the bar. We wanted to try different food than that bar/ restaurant had to offer.
