Nostalgia S Hotel(Kunming Dongfeng Square)

It’s the second time we have been in a hotel from this chain and for a mid range hotel it’s wonderful: comfortable, clean, with all you need and many details, and nice and helpful staff

The it's a little far north of a lot of good areas, but easy to get a taxi or Didi around the city

The family room is great! Amazing value for money, felt very luxurious.

Wonderful comfy room, very clean, good shower, spacious. Decent breakfast included in a really good price. Staff don't speak languages other than Mandarin but try very hard to look after visitors. Laundry is free too The dryers take hours and hours to dry. I hate to criticize because it's free but just be aware.

Very comfortable beds and spacious rooms, with lots of small extras included (snacks, drinks, slippers, toiletries). Breakfast was excellent, with both Chinese and Western options available. Excellent value for money. Also a free to use laundry room was within the hotel, which is helpful when on longer trips. Like many hotels in China, communication at check in, for non Chinese speaking tourists is difficult. The reception team were using a translation app, which made the check in process achievable. But it was difficult to ask any questions beyond that. We could not get our air conditioning working in the room and the language barrier meant that we couldn't figure it out. It wasn't too hot when we were there, so not a major issue. This is not specific to this hotel however, just something to be aware of when booking non international hotels. We are used to it and find that we enjoy Chinese hotels more, so its just something that we accept as the foreigner in the interaction.

The hotel looked new and well renovated, the rooms were also very clean. Local food for breakfast gave us visitors a cultural understanding of what Chinese have for breakfast. Supper with millet/porridge with pickled vegetables looked interesting and could be served to the room via the robot server. We enjoyed the stay in the clean and beautiful hotel very much. Two things: a) not accessible to bus/train but thankfully taxi/DiDi is easily accessible. b) not enough hooks in bathroom for towels and change of attires.

Outstanding reception and staff. They were always eager and helpful to accommodate any special needs from ordering food delivery to getting a pair of crutches delivered (and we had some with an injured ankle). Five star treatment!!!!! Great location (as far as I could tell) and a beautifully maintained and equipped building. Multiple free amenities if desired from snacks and soft drinks in the room to any general hygiene item you can think of needing including, an on site laundry with free detergent. A generous breakfast buffet, also attended by very helpful and friendly staff. The hotel surprised me with clever innovations like a small motion detector nightlight that would come on for late night trips to the bathroom and a robot delivery room service for the food that I had them order. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone but the most particular guest. Absolutely nothing! It was a first class experience!
