Laguna Brisas - A Beach Hotel

property was average, could use a remodeler upgrade

Older property, but the location was great. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

The online check-in was inconvenient. There is no bellman. There are ants in the room on the nightstand and ants in the bathroom. There is no way to contact the front desk from your room. When we called “Sondor” we were connected to someone internationally and they said they have no way to contact the property or put us in contact with the front desk. When we walked back to the front desk staff the woman said, “Oh, they are just California sugar ants. They are just looking for water.” Completely dismissive and horrible customer service. This is unacceptable for $477 a night! When I called “Sonder” they told me they are going to give me 5000 Marriot points (the equivalent of $40) and there was no supervisor available (of course). I even said cancel my reservation and give me a refund to go somewhere else and they are refusing to refund my money. This is not a 3.5 star hotel.

Our lock didn’t work and it was inconvenient. Maybe offer some snacks on-site.

There was no way to heat up food so I had to keep spending money to eat while my leftovers sat in the fridge. The coffee maker and the electric kettle were also dirty and there were some ants in the room.

One thing I will say is that the bed is very comfortable.

Clean room & bathroom! Super comfy bed and sheets. Overall we had an amazing stay!

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, Rooms were basic but large and clean.

The Room is pretty run down and if you spend a minute looking around you can find 20 things that are wrong with the room. Dirt on the walls, no towels, leaking AC unit. BUT…. the view, location, and price are amazing. I would 1000% stay here again because it is UNBEATABLE deal for being on PCH. Staff was also incredibly efficient and kind.

I Got bit by a spider on my face three times surrounding area near my right eye in bed, woke up after bitten. Had to go to doctors office next day and needed 10 day antibiotics . Doors have a gap on the bottom to the outside where insects can easily get in the room. They sprayed my room kindly when reported but the gap doesn’t keep insects out of the room.

The air conditioner is very noisy.

I’ve stayed at other Sonder locations and always had lovely accommodations. This hotel is run down and dirty. We have found several pubic hairs in the bathroom. My feet are filthy from 5 minutes of being barefoot in the room. Furniture has peeling laminate. It’s really a disappointing experience. I tried to add video documentation to this review but it won’t let me. Trust, it’s gross.

Facilities are decrepit

The first room we had was terrible. Could not work the A/C and found out the panel was broken. Sink was missing the stopper so anything could fall down the hole. The window was small and cloudy, so you could not see out. It was a small and very awkward layout. remote for TV didn't work. The coffee maker didn't work (Kuerig?) and put a ton of grounds in the coffee. We came in through the garage and didn't realize there was any staff onsite until 2 days later, so we thought we were dealing with online staff only. The keypad from the garage to the hotel didn't work and they had to order another one. The online staff were very responsive with texts, but nothing was resolved. However once we realied there was onsite staff, they finally figured we had to move to a new room, because of all the issues. The new room was great. Bed was comfortable, we could see out the windows and had a great view. We discovered there was an ice machine and filtered water refill machine and a nice pool, jacuzzi and upper floor lounge area. Wish we would have found these sooner. The keypad access was a pain and it would have been easier with a card. They said we could download the app - but how many apps do we need on our phones? Pool and Jacuzzi were pretty clean except some sand on the bottom, but very warm.

Fantastic hotel! Considering all the reviews, I was a little hesitant when making my reservation, however I can say that it well beyond my expectations, and I would highly recommend staying here.
