The Retreat in Laguna Beach

I booked the "Deluxe Villa" for my birthday, imagining something of a small Laguna Beach retreat. The location is indeed pleasant: St. Ann’s and Cleo’s beaches are nearby, and downtown is a brisk ten-minute walk away. The Wi-Fi, too, performed its duties admirably. Unfortunately, much else did not. My requests regarding early check-in or late checkout went unanswered, and I arrived without an access code, clear parking instructions, or even certainty as to which unit was mine. Of the two telephone numbers provided, one was useless; mercifully, the other worked. The advertised "partial ocean view" proved less a view than a rumor. Furnishings differed from the photographs, which seem to preserve the property in an earlier and more flattering chapter. Cleanliness was disappointing, particularly the substantial dust on upper surfaces and ceiling fans, while the aging split A/C units supplied a nightly soundtrack hardly conducive to rest. Most troubling were security cameras that had not been disclosed to me, including one facing the supposedly private patio. I was later told the cameras were not functioning—a reassurance of rather limited reassuring power. Add the numerous extra charges, even for such things as beach towels, and the price becomes exceedingly difficult to justify. Laguna Beach is lovely. This property, at this price, I cannot recommend.

Booked this room for Father’s Day and I have to say my husband was impressed. The view from the balcony is beautiful. We were coming from Six Flags and asked if we could park prior to checking in and they actually let us check in a few hours early so we were appreciative of that. We are planning to go back soon and I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else now.

BEAUTIFUL views! Clean location. Great access to beaches and restaurants. Great stay. good value.

Cozy small apartment with equipped kitchen, walking distance to everything, dedicated parking spots, private community patio overlooking the beach. We love coming back here each summer. No complaints.

No one ever stay there horrible place horrible service this property is a nightmare

Great location! Room was dirty when checked in. They gave us a different room. the next day we got are room after it was cleaned! A/c was hot on are bedroom. rooms need painting. nice bed!

We have stayed at this property several times. This time we were so surprised to find it in such bad shape. Our air conditioning didn’t work. Gate in our patio was broken, front door not secure, leaky ice and water on fridge, shower hose busted. Some lights didn’t work and overall bad condition. We called owner to no avail. Too bad it used to be a beautiful property

Nice view room was big, but the management is not on site, the remote didn't work because the batteries were leaking acid and wouldn't come to replace them. I went to take a shower the water turned on my fiance walked in telling me that the floor was wet so I turned the water off but it wouldn't turn off called management and they said the main valve is outside the unit we will fix it in the morning and didn't let us change rooms. Turned an amazing family trip into a frustrating nightmare.

Perfect location! The communal patio furniture could be updated but everything else was beautiful! Definitely coming back to this little gem!

Great view!

Killer view, easy walk to downtown. Dog friendly and decent kitchen Very pricy and it seemed unnecessary to charge us an extra $45 a night on top of the $500 a night for parking, especially since the parking belongs to the hotel with a spot allocated for each room/cottage

Says there Are beach towels and chairs available yet no one there to help.

I understand ocean=rust and corrosion but for the price, the upkeep needs to be stellar. For the good things, location is incredible- 10/10. Mattress and pillows were comfy. The floor was clean. The shared patio is steps away and has the best view. There is great potential in villa #1 but for now the other units seem to be better.

Perfect getaway. Very quiet and relaxing stay. I’ll definitely be back. I also meet another couple who stated they come there a lot

Enjoyed our stay

Rooms were decent as far as the cleanliness, however there was a slight odor when we first opened the villa door. The property is smoke free which is fantastic. If ocean view isn’t a must for your stay, I would recommend 14 west which is right across the street from their location. I believe they’re ran under the same management.

Great location. Just steps to the beach. The Orange Inn is very close and a great breakfast spot.

The stay was along with the view was nice. There are no staff available in person or on the phone. We lost about 2 hours of the short stay (the last hour of sun!). We were not able to retrieve our key for about the first 90 minutes. Management claims they sent an email and text, if they did, I did not receive either!! It was frustrating. I honestly thought we had been scammed. The deck has a beautiful view but looks nothing like the pics. The room was cute however, floor was filthy and our door did not lock from the inside.
