1 River Central Hostel

The booking was confirmed but when I arrived at the property, I was told they are already fully booked which is totally unacceptable and very frustrating.

Pretty cheap for Manila. There’s a fridge. Some friendly guests. Not a backpacker hostel. Mostly expats living there. Not social. No toulet seats or toilet paper. Staff is helpful but not friendly. Instead of being straight forward she would lie and make excuses for things that she didn’t want to help me with.

Owner was welcoming, warm and friendly. This is how Filipinos are. Bathroom amenities. Floor always wet. Level of toilet bowl at calf height and without a seat. Difficult to shower or wash when there's nowhere to put or hang one's clothes/things. A rail and some hooks would make a big difference.

Ultimate living experience. The air-conditioning is so good and worth all the money. Very good for smokers because there is a lot of place for smoking. None

They won't tell you but the roof lounge is the best feature. Drinkin in the outside lounge next to the front gate, well ... the traffic can be quite noisy. Make sure they don't put you next to the A/C. I wonder if they could've put the temp any lower. ??? I'm so surprised I didn't get sick. What happens to a guest that turns down the A/C? Look at picture I attached. First time I've ever seen that. ??? Don't know about the shower. I didn't take one.

Toilets,

Nothing - The bed was almost going to break, made of wood, so risky, soo cheap - The other hostel mates - The location is bad - Horrible place - Felt unsecure

It seems like some of the guests, were just not guests but employees living in the room permanently. Which they didn’t bother us at all, but it made us feel a little uncomfortable. It was not what we expected at all, so we didn’t even stay for the night at the end

Nothing. Sincerely nothing and I am not over reacting. Staying in hostels over 30 years. Created, managed, co-owned hostels and have a very easy going, understanding approach generally. If the intensions are good ! I booked, because of a change in my program tried to contact the property through the e mail and Viber nos provided in Booking Without success. They responded my e mail after my complaining following my arrival. Bit late, don't you think? The place is dirty, toilets can compete with metro station public ones, in Manila that is. One toilet and shower for 12 beds , if not more from other floors. Bathroom cleaning is wetting the floor and the seat with hose water. Toilet seats missing, Shampoo and soap I understand ( bring your own) but no toilet paper No hooks to hang anything in shower. Bed sheet was not changed. The immigrants living in the hostel have no respect the least, towards other guests. I understand you are living there but if you are that comfortable with space and noise you need a private room or apartment Personal space of the bed occupied by other beds long time stayers. Same with the usable lockers. Many broken, usable ones even if registered for your bed taken over and used as a personal kitchen cabinet ( food everywhere) or wardrobe. See pics below.
