Red Roof Inn Memphis East

Receptionist was ANGRY, he really wasn’t happy at all. Rooms were in disrepair. Stains on lampshades, floor taped down with duct tape. Toilet felt like it was unscrewed and was going to fall over when you sat on it. Shower only had cold water. We stayed as a last resort due to a power cut so we had no electric (or air con). Got us out of a hole, but I wouldn’t plan on staying there unless you were desperate (like we were).

Unclean room with gnats and spiders everywhere and in the ceiling. Rude woman at front counter that doesn’t like her job apparently. 10/10 would not recommend.

Have cash for a refundable deposit. Otherwise they can make some extra money off you by using their atm. There were plenty of bugs to squish. Just the bathroom and sink area thankfully. Without bugs, nice and wonderful motel.

The price is always fair, they always have smoking rooms available and it's right off the highway so you can get back on the road quickly. This is my 3rd time booking with this location. The first 2 times everything was fine. I also plan to book here again during my next stay in Memphis.. I arrived at 3pm and was told rooms were not ready to check in. I had to wait 30 mins for a room that I never saw anyone come out of. So that means it was ready for check in the entire time. I think the man running the front desk that afternoon was just having a bad day and wanted to pass that bad day onto the customers.

Bad

The manager was rude and erratic. The desk clerk made a mistake at checkin, so the name on the room didn't match my ID. This became an issue when I tried to get a new keycard. Instead of correcting the problem (by looking at the photocopy made of my ID at checkin), the manager became irate and kicked me out early, refusing to return my prepayment or security deposit. He also lied, telling me that the clerk who checked me in was dead. (She wasn't; she was back at the desk later.) Don't stay here, and definitely don't prepay.

Exceptional

Room was adequate... all the basics covered for me and my pup for a quick stay. Could definitely use newer linens and rooms were tiny but it had everything I needed. Actually enjoyed the surroundings more than the room. It was in a quiet area with a really pretty pond right across the street to walk my dog.

The location was ok. Close to restaurants and gas stations. They required a $100 security deposit on top of the room rate, which was not in the online booking info. The security lock on the door was broken, the bed felt like a slab of plywood and the carpet was filthy.
