Beautiful hotel and location, right on the river. The rooms are well designed and clean, and the onsen are beautiful and relaxing. The hotel staff was friendly and their rotating art features are a nice touch. Delicious food as well, would stay here again.

I was originally interested in this hotel because I read that the Onsen had a Museum full of Kishio Suga's work. I had been following this amazing Japanese artist for a number of years... so that fact was a deciding factor for me. But, the Onsen, the staff, the care that we felt they put into everything they did, the atmosphere of the place, the gardens also designed by Kishio Suga, the delightful guests we had the pleasure of meeting, our room and the food we were served - and let's not forget the tour of the museum! - made me love this place. Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya has history. Someone told us that the Onsen was 500 years old. Most of the Japanese guests we met there went to purely relax. The kind and capable staff take amazing care of all the guests: A Japanese friend in Tokyo told me I should celebrate the Winter Solstice while I was in Nasushiobara. She explained that on that one day, it had always been traditionally celebrated by putting YUZU fruit in Japanese baths and eating something made of pumpkin. I asked the hotel about all this. I really don't think it was part of their plan... but, they did it all: the YUZU in the baths and the specially prepared Pumpkin desserts. It was all to please us, their guests, and make sure our stay was perfect. I was so grateful and felt so pampered and happy. I enjoyed that fruit in the Japanese bath more than you can imagine. So, If you want to relax in a beautiful Onsen with history, go see great art at the. Suga museum, to have a beautiful experience, and be pampered in a very Japanese sort of way...you must come to Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya. Not a thing at the hotel. The little town behind the Onsen was run down. That made me sad. But at the Onsen Daikokuya, the marvelous staff made sure everything worked perfectly

Very peaceful place. Feels like there was once a bit more in the area, but the natural scenery is stunning. The staff are very friendly and the onsen facilities are great and clean. The food is honestly amazing and alone made it worth the money, really authentic dishes using locally sourced ingredients. The room felt a touch dated, but in a way added to the character of the whole experience.

Our stay at Itamuro Onsen was truly exceptional. Words can hardly capture how special this place is. Surrounded by exquisite nature, beautifully curated furniture and ceramics, a sophisticated art library, and gardens designed by renowned artist Kishio Suga, it was a memorable experience. The onsens were perfect for the relaxation you need after spending some days in a busy city like Tokyo. A special thanks to Koki, who kindly showed us around Suga's museum and shared insights about the special project that is Itamuro. We're already looking forward to returning soon! Our stay was perfect.
