Characterful building with no doubt a lot of history. Room was comfortable. Good home cooked food available. The restaurant/ bar is a pleasant space but we thought the way the menu was presented cheapens the actual quality of the food on offer. The signage outside is dated and unnecessary and downgrades the look of the building which is actually a beautiful place.

Very friendly welcome, nice big comfortable bedroom, good breakfast & evening meals. Plenty of private parking. Lovely location next to the river. They aren't open during the day & only open at 4pm, so don't arrive early! Evening meals are only available for hotel & campsite residents now, so it was rather quiet.

Peaceful area with nice view from the back of the hotel. Beds very uncomfortable. Very small twin room. Shower tray very compact and small bathroom. No hook to hang anything in the bathroom. Outside sitting area has a beautiful view but the chairs and tables are dirty and disorganised.

Staff were lovely, really helpful and accommodating

The location I’m fairly certain that they ran out of bedding, therefore raided their own family linen closet. I can honestly say the bedding was like a children’s print of cows and was ancient & bobbly. The same for the towels! The room was dirty, the carpets filthy, the door didn’t lock, the staff were absent, the breakfast was horrific, cold coffee and a week old bananas and croissants. Not a single pleasantry to add. Finally, the entrance through to the reception was just odd, weird carved candle sculptures everywhere.

Excellent location for touring Galloway. Tatiana and Alistair were great hosts. Hotel is clean and comfortable but is looking a bit tired and probably needs some redecorating. Very quiet during the week.

Excellent, thank you.

Good location. Stunning views. A bit dated and food is very microwavable. Book ahead in St Johns if you can. The room as you enter is full of candles which gives a creepy vibe

The hotel was conveniently located for me for a family visit. Its position by the river was nice, and I was able to walk to New Galloway over fields. It was possible to sit and eat on the terrace in the evenings. Tatiana was charming. I felt the hotel was overpriced and that the rooms were in need of refurbishment. There was nowhere in the room for me to put my clothes, and there was a dangerous step into the bathroom.
