Bakenskraal Ostrich Palace

Beautiful old farm house, staff very friendly, beautiful room. They had a basic breakfast ready at 05:00 already for cyclists. Room 1 is next to Reception and a because of a window between the room and reception, one can actually hear everything going on in Reception. If you want a quiet room, ask not to be in Room 1.

My stay at Bakenskraal Ostrich Palace was nothing short of extraordinary and will remain on my top list of memorable travel experiences. From the moment we arrived, the place felt truly special, with a unique character and atmosphere that immediately made us feel welcome. The accommodation is outstanding in every sense. The rooms are beautifully appointed, exceptionally comfortable, and finished to a very high standard. The house itself has an undeniable magic about it, full of history, charm, and warmth that makes you feel instantly at home. What truly sets Bakenskraal apart is the exceptional service. The staff went far beyond what was expected, going out of their way to accommodate us with a braai, even making roosterkoek for us, and ensuring that every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. Breakfast was equally exceptional and beautifully prepared, generous, and clearly made with love and genuine care. The entire experience made me fall in love with the Karoo. Bakenskraal Ostrich Palace is a rare gem that leaves you with warm, lasting memories, and I will most definitely return. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a truly memorable and heartfelt Karoo escape.

Likes: Staff were outstanding, food was good and rooms well-appointed. Sense of history can be felt. Dislikes: The yard is not inviting, it looks fairly neglected, maybe a reminder to be on the lookout for ghosts. Why not mow the lawns and recover the pool cushions?

Farm setup away from city. Ostriches close by. Garden, paving & grass not in good state. Welcoming drink or chocolate missing. Limited indoor seats for breakfast. Leaking basin. Paint on walls coming off. Private garden unuseable, grass long, no seating etc.

Spacious room with all dstv channels, air conditioing and kingsize bed. No cupboards yet. They are working on it. Google maps took us on gravel road that was not necessary. Not the lodge's mistake

Lovely rooms, big comfortable beds, excellent breakfast, and we had a lovely dinner. Lovely bathroom. We only spent 1 night here but would have loved to stay longer. We will be back. The only complaint I would have to say is on Booking.com it said enjoy Dinner for R285-00 per person which we did think was really cheap, but when I paid the bill, we were charged R485-00 per person. It is important to ensure your information is correct, as I had booked for other people, and they had paid me in advance for the dinner and then I felt embarrassed to tell them it was more than I told them.

We had an amazing stay. Spacious rooms with hardwood floors and high ceilings. The most comfortable bed ever. Amazing dinner at the restaurant, and great breakfast. Highly Recommended

The rooms were exceptional. Wherever we looked there was a little detail, a hidden secret to welcome us and make our stay beyond the ordinary. We absolutely loved every minute of being there. We had the most exceptional dinner on the terrace. I can only recommend it most highly to anyone traveling in the area. We absolutely loved it and the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and at home. What are you waiting for. Visit immediately!!! Everything was perfect.
