Taransay House

It was a fantastic stay, Murdo was extremely helpful in providing recommendations for things to do, places to see, etc… while Scott cooked some of the best food we had all trip! Nothing!

The location was great! Murdo and his son Scott runs the place like a clock! The room was spotless and comfortable. Scott prepares the dinner and breakfast. Food was wonderful, top notch quality. We really enjoyed our stay.

Overall, the best we experienced in the UK. Top quality facility, dining, host hospitality, and location. Murdo provided a very personable welcome and interaction, and son/chef Scott a creative, quality dining experience. Murdo provided practical and interesting guidance for sites and activities. Facility was spotless, and room and bedding sublime. All in all, wonderful stay. Nothing.

Taransay is a wonderful place to stay in Portree—one of the best guest houses we stayed at in Scotland. The owner, Murdo, and his son, Scott, went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. They provided excellent recommendations for places to visit that were perfectly suited to the very foggy and rainy weather during our time on Skye. The food was fantastic, and the breakfast was both delicious and offered a great variety of choices. Our room and bathroom were beautifully appointed, comfortable, and impeccably maintained. Everything about our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. We had a truly wonderful experience and would highly recommend Taransay to anyone visiting the Isle of Skye.

Murdo and Scott were excellent hosts. They anticipated our every need and were super accommodating. They provided a wealth of information every morning for activities around the area. The breakfasts and dinners that Scott created were fantastic and not to be missed. The back terrace was a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the view of the water. We made use of the laundry service (Skye Laundry) that picks up and drops off at the hotel, which was very convenient.

Our stay was amazing from arrival to departure, the rooms were exceptionally well thought out and so comfortable, and the view amazing! the food was to die for Scott is a wonderful chef so creative and inventive. We would absolutely love to go back and Murdo was a great host and so helpful with itineraries for Skye.

Absolutely beautiful small hotel, very friendly and helpful owners. Beautiful locations and easy to drive to and park. The meals were phenomenal, service was above and beyond.

Murdo was the best host you could ask for! He was very knowledgeable about the area and helped us plot our day on the Isle of Skye which made it easy for us to see everything on our list. But, the jewel of this place is the food. Scott is AMAZING! The food was next level, so elegant and delicious.

Beautiful hotel with exceptional views in a fantastic location, just a few minutes walk from the center of town. The chef created a 5-star dining experience and the staff was incredibly knowledgeable. They provided off-the-beaten-path recommendations that made our experience on Skye so much more fun and memorable. They even provided recommendations for where to stop along our route to Glasgow after our stay. Truly a wonderful experience here! No notes. Thrilled with our stay!

Every detail about the hotel was planned out and designed carefully. The hotel has only been open since 2019 but you walk in and everything is perfectly and meticulously clean. The owners have been in the hotel business for years and their son is the chef. 4 well appointed rooms in this hotel with a beautiful soaking tub in our room, balcony overlooking the water and a beautiful shower. We were welcomed with a shot of whisky and our breakfast and dinner is worthy for a five star star hotel. The chef has worked as a sous chef at a few Michelin restaurants for several years. This is the place for any foodies who can appreciate the time and intentionality that goes into the preparation of each meal with care. Extensive wine, rich desserts and creative and inventive menu sourced with local food and sources. The best place to stay in town if you love to be pampered. The price per night is definitely on the higher side in town. It is worth every penny. I am a world traveler, foodie and it is evident the owners treat each guest with exceptional service and care. There is no other place I will stay when I return to Portree. Thank you for an unforgettable stay. The only thing I would have liked would be a flat sheet in between the duvet when I got hot. I did appreciate the fan in the room when I did.

Located in Portree. Views of the water. What’s an incredible property! The meals are incredible created by the chef-Scott. and the host - Murdo, pays attention to the details! Fantastic!! Walking distance to shopping. Loved everything!

The service was absolutely amazing , couldn't ask for more even if I tried. They went above and beyond, messaged me before recommending tours and activities. The meals are included and Scott the chef is incredible we enjoyed every meal that he made for us. The location is wonderful its right by the town square a quick 10 minute walk. The rooms are exactly as pictured, very clean , spacious bathroom! A bit expensive

The property was clean, beautiful and had wonderful views. It was a short walk to the Portree main part of town. The food was absolutely amazing!! Murdo the host is so nice, friendly and super helpful with great tips about Isle of Skye and other parts of Scotland. Scott who is the chef, cooks spectacular food!! I highly recommend the Taransay House! Nothing!

The service was friendly, efficient, and went above and beyond. The cuisine was unimaginably fantastic. We'll never forget Taransay House. Nothing to say; nothing to not like.

Very clean and appealing venue. Well above average modern conveniences (Shower, USB, etc.). Fun dining atmosphere and excellent cuisine. We weren't allowed to share a night cap with our friends. It created an awkward moment for all 4 of us. It felt like Mom telling us to go to our rooms. (We are a very quiet and respectful group) The facility does not have a community toilet. Before check-in, my wife had to go all the way to town to use the facilities.

Excellent accommodation; modern and clean. Many thanks to Scott for accommodating us on our vegan diet. Enjoyed the variety and quality.

Exceptional

We loved every aspect of Taransay House from the room to the service to the food. It was all amazing. The hosts were very knowledgeable of the local area and provided great insights into the best places to visit. We could not recommend this place any more.
