Hotel PAX Casona del Busto

A classic hotel from another era (the edifice is over 500 years old!) like a few others we have encountered in authentic corners of Spain. The hotel was centrally located in the historic core of the small town. Although there was not a lot to see in Pravia, it is close to a lot of beauty. Valentina welcomed us with a huge smile, set out a great breakfast, and gave us great advice on visiting the prettiest miradors, beaches, and small towns in the area. The room was large, the bed was very comfortable, there was a kettle for tea in the room, and we we had a great stay. There was quite a bit of competition for parking spots near the hotel, but Valentina was helpful in getting us settled.

Overall, the hotel is ok. Friendly staff, interesting old building with atmosphere. The town is small, so there are not many options. From the reviews I expected more, but my expectations were not met. The room was not cozy, many things could be improved. For example, the toilet door handle was loose and the door was hard to close. On the ceiling of the room there was a WiFi access point with a big blue light (which probably could be turned off in settings). Next to it was another device with a green light. Because of this, the room was very bright at night (blue and green light), which made it hard to sleep. Breakfast was very poor, almost nothing to eat. Even the yogurt portions were only a few spoons each. No proper coffee. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the parking.

The staff is incredibly nice and always with a smile. Both the shower and the bed were amazing, with a high standard. We had a wedding at Moutas palace which was a 4-Minute walk away.

Lack of an elevator makes it cumbersome for taking baggage.

We liked that the property allowed dogs and that it was very central. We did not like that the four reserved parking spots to unload luggages were always taken by guests at night. The area is quite busy and it’s not easy to find a parking, so we don’t understand why some guests were allowed to park there and others were not. We also did not like that we asked in advance how much would be the supplement for pets and there was no answer. The supplement in fact is 15 euros a night, which costed us an extra night on our stay. It was fine for us to pay, but - unfortunately - the room (the bathroom, in particular) did not receive special attention in the cleaning, which is something you would expect for paying the extra fee. The house is very beautiful but also very old, so expect to feel the smell of mould. They add some kind of perfume to sort of make it less noticeable, which might make it even worse for someone who has a sensitive nose.

Location Not very clean, the toilet brush was filthy, when the toilet was flushed, noise until it filled, no extras in bathroom ie. comb, toothpaste or shoe shine. In our room the WIFI did not reach. One of the bedside tables door kept in falling out.

It was really clean, the bed was one of the best I’ve slept on, and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, would stay again! the rooms were decorated nicely, however the bathrooms were a little dated, but other than that it was lovely.

Old world charm. No Wi-Fi.
