The unpretentious nature of the place. A little old-fashioned/dated, but I actually quite liked that, and it is reflected in the price. Key to side door provided, to get in at any time. I hardly saw anyone - just for collecting the key, then I was left to my own devices. Not a great problem. It’s a little odd that the hotel only offers breakfast (and other meals) at the weekend. There are eating places nearby, however.
