The room had a strong and overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. Within 20 minutes of entering, my wife developed a headache and our 3-year-old son began coughing — a clear sign that the air quality was unacceptable. We had no choice but to check out within two hours of arrival and urgently book a new hotel. It was a stressful and deeply disappointing experience for our family. The listing on Booking.com stated that the property was kid-friendly and “welcomed children of all ages.” That information was misleading. We requested a refund, which we believed was entirely reasonable under the circumstances, but the hotel refused to cooperate. Booking.com, instead of helping us, shifted responsibility to the hotel. We booked this property because we trusted Booking.com’s platform and ratings. Unfortunately, Booking.com failed to support us when it mattered most. Even our Genius Plus status meant nothing when it came to a basic issue of fairness and accountability. We will not return to this hotel — and, regretfully, we are reconsidering our loyalty to Booking.com as well.
