We stayed 5 nights at first and liked the hotel so much that we returned and stayed for another 9 nights. For a 3-star boutique hotel, you won't regret! We chose it for the most convenient location, trains and buses taking us everywhere. The staff went the extra mile to meet our needs, with free toothbrushes, razors, shower caps, water bottles and arranging taxi. The room was clean and spacious. The beds were more comfortable than some of the 4-star and 5-star hotels. The shower had a strong and steady flow. We didn't need to use adapters as the room thought of everything for us. The breakfast exceeded our expectations with excellent coffee choices and for the price. The self laundry service was a plus. Front desk can set up WeChat on your phone or you pay them later after they pay for the service first, washer, dryer, dip dry, and iron/boards ready for your journey. Best VALUE for your money and loved Lina, Jamie and all staffs. And you get to meet international travelers from every continent!!! Thank you booking.com for this hotel:) Internet/Wi-fi was weak and can improve The garbage area from the hotel in the front can be hidden and resolved.

We stayed here for our first visit in China with my family so we had two rooms, we appreciate the space and interior. Everything is new and clean. The location is truly excellent. We got two rooms, however, the air con of the other room is malfunctioning throughout the stay. We reported it during the first night but the staff didn't action and only insisted on changing our rooms but we're already checking out and only offered free breakfast.

Great location! 3 min walk to the train station. Near shopping areas for mainstream and artsy Chinese brands, cafes and restaurants, with nice places to jog at nearby (near the tree-lined French Concession). Helpful staff too. Thanks!

Close to the metro The bathroom had an unpleasant odour, also the water leaked every time after a shower.

Was good. Much pricier than usual for china, but i guess thats how this erea is. Located right by a very good cafe and a macdonalds if you feel homesick. Good erea, in the middle of shanghai, with good access to the sea side and other ereas. Was pricey. The breakfast was good but also pricey and didn't have much of a veriety. I would much rather eat in a street resturant.

It was a little bit more expensive than you would expect from China - although to be fair it was a last minute booking - but still - the price was aligned with European/Western standards and we were surprised it did not include breakfast. Perhaps I am not used to things in Shanghai but hotels e.g. in modern cities such as Shenzhen feature maaaany more amenities, facilities, services and provide better value.

    - The staff was genuinely trying to help and were really nice. I heard from friends that that's not always the case in Shanghai hotels. - The location was great (except for the construction). You can walk to many places in the French Concession and are incredibly well connected to Metro getting you everywhere very fast (2 stations <5 min away with different metro lines). I found it harder than usual to research before the trip due to China's firewall, so I was hoping for the best and got positively surprised - Some of the staff didn't speak much English, but they were nice and trying with translator apps. - The room was pretty dark, because the window doesn't get much light, but not a big deal. Also a bit small, but no problem to open suitcases or similar - The wifi was bad - Maybe a temporary problem: there was annoying construction right outside the hotel, which made it harder to find + quite loud + dirty in the morning when leaving the hotel. Nothing they can do, but worth mentioning especially when you're checking in late at night in the dark

The breakfast was amazing. Such a lovely way to start the day! Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Comfortable bed in a lovely little room. Couldn't be happier with my stay.

Staff was very helpful. Wifi connection was not good. Room was very hot even with windows opened. Centrally controlled air con was switched off ' because it is spring'. The reception provided us with a fan but it did not help much.

  • Engine customer Mar 2026

Clean and comfortable, excellent location in the city. Lively with lots of restaurants and bars, but quiet in the rooms Breakfast was quite simple and not the best in the region for the price

Great location. Friendly staff. Fun design choices. I liked the complementary Biscoff with the in room tea/coffee. Mattresses and pillows very firm - not everyone will like that, but I actually prefer it that way. Decently sized room. Cheap. Maybe I was just unlucky with the allocated room, but I do not understand that this property has a 8.5+ rating. My biggest issue was that my room had a pungent smell of cigarettes. The window was open upon check in so I'm pretty sure cleaning staff realized but didn't bother to tell me there were issues. I returned to the room 9 hours later and the smell was still 100% there. The smell was so strong it makes me belief that the person(s) must have smoked constantly in the room, as the smell had penetrated the walls/furniture. This really made my stay very uncomfortable. The room had a lot of wear and tear. A lot of damaged surfaces and walls, so maintenance should be improved. Sound insulation was poor. You could hear everything that was going on in the hallway. The door had a big gap, which most likely didn't help. The bathroom sinks were placed in the entryhallway, which was a bit awkward. I had a second booking at this property a few days later and I decided to cancel as I was not happy with this experience. I stayed at the Jing An Campanile before and preferred that property a lot more.
