Hotel Izukyu

Ocean-front and peaceful. The location and view was great, looking out over Shirahama Beach and a short hop to get right on the sand. Our rooms each had a bath overlooking the beach, and it was a great way to relax at the end of the day. Personally I wish the bath was longer vs the round tub, but it was still comfortable and the chair off to one side made a great place to continue to unwind. The rooms were well-equipped, with comfortable beds, A bit on the smaller side, but in fairness a good portion of the room real estate was taken up by the tub and chair area which were a lot more useful than more floorspace. The property is much larger inside than I'd thought at first, with buffet breakfast served in a room that could (and from the looks of it often did) hold large weddings. Unsurprisingly, the buffet was focused on Japanese tastes so while there were plenty of options for us someone with kids that are particular to western tastes may find fewer options than they might like. In that case there's a 7-11 right next door as a backup plan. While we didn't get a chance to use the large pool, we saw it being cleaned meticulously, they had a separate (large) splash pool for kids, and they even had inflatables for a very reasonable fee... as well as an air hose to fill up your own! Great places inside the large first and second floor lobby areas to sit and see the view, and lots of wide open space inside the hotel for kids to explore. Parking was easy, though I'd imagine on a crowded beach weekend someone might try and direct you into the lower paid parking lot and not the included hotel lot.

Staff is excellent! They have free bus shuttle service. They can speak many languages and it is very easy to communicate. Kitchen staff was very kind and accommodating to our needs and would change the menu to whatever we wanted. They also gave us paper cupons every evening to use after dinner yo get fresh fruits and desserts and we could take it all to our room! Absolutely amazing ? Pool area and garden was very well taken care of and cleaned perfectly. There was also massage salon service, many vending machines and a store inside the hotel itself. Location is perfect. Every room looks at the Shirahama beach and the sea. We could wake up to a beautiful sunrise ? There is a convenience store right underneath the hotel and a Hawaiian cafe where you could have lunch or dessert. Inside the hotel there are laundry machines, private onsen, public bath amazing looking at the sea, ping pong tables, etc. inside the room there is always special Japanese treat waiting for us and even if you don’t eat it in the day you get new refil. Same with tea and coffee. It felt like everyone is a family that cares very sincerely about the guests. Everyone is respectful and kind and trying to help out.

Amazing location, beautiful pool and easy access to the beach across the street from the property. We had the room plus breakfast and dinner plan and food was excellent. Dinner is traditional kaiseki dinner and breakfast is buffet with extensive Japanese and Western options. Bathroom is tiny and while clean, shows the age of the hotel. While food is excellent, it is served in their ballroom where all guests dine (at your own table) giving a cafeteria vibe.

The staff were amazing, experts in hospitality. They helped myself and my coworker with getting taxis to go to the black ship festival events, going above and beyond for us. We felt truly welcome at this fine establishment!

Great location, right by a beautiful beach, watching surfers from your window. Good breakfast, Friendly staff. Great onsen Building is older and a bit dated, but it’s not hard to look past that.

The breakfast is generous but became repetitive after a few days. And the breakfast room lacks charm. But not everyone would stay in one place for a week.

It's close to the beach. They have a pool, but no pool towels. They have 2 restaurants, but they're expensive and require advance reservation. The location is just far enough away from things that you can't walk, and their shuttle doesn't run into the evening. It's just plain inconvenient, even with a car.

The location is scenic, the beach in front is very pretty. Hotel staff try to be nice. The hotel is old and while the rooms are clean the common areas are sort of gross. The whole hotel seems in need of a major renovation. Also the hotel Rooms were so hot, it was very uncomfortable. Also the hotel should be cheaper

The breakfast buffet was also really good with several meal options. It's a bit old, however it's kept very clean.
