The Bay Motel

Chris was so lovely when she welcomed us and the room was ready early which was so nice. The room itself was lovely and the view was stunning down to the harbor. The jacuzzi tub was also quite nice. Would love to have stayed longer!

Excellent location, great service. The host was there at the ferry terminal ready to drive us to the motel which is a short 7 minute walk away. Did the same on our departure. The room was nice and big equipped with kitchen utensils, microwave, electric hob, toaster, etc. A supermarket is nearby, 5 mins walk away. Nothing at all!

I was initially unsure about staying at a motel on Stewart Island since I prefer B&Bs, but Bay Motel won me over! They picked us up right at the ferry, gave us a quick island tour so we got our bearings, and were super friendly the whole time. The place was spotless, they gave us great activity tips, and even drove us back to the ferry. It was perfect for my son and me to each have our own space. I couldn’t recommend it more!

The Wi-Fi did not work well at all in our room, only in the bathroom and to some extent in the queen bedroom, but no signal could be maintained in the living room and twin bedroom.

Nice room for a 3 star motel. And walking distance to everything on Seward Island.

Great location. Free transportation from harbour.

Very convenient to Oban facilities. Wonderful deck with plenty of birdlife to entertain. Shuttle to/from plane depot was conevnient. Nothing!

Fabulous view Doubles beds smaller than used to

The view from our room was wonderful-- looking out to the bay. We had a special greeter on our deck-- a friendly and curious Kaka that hung out for a while and returned to take shelter during the rain. Very close to the tour guide locations.

Not air B & B but in the area as good as easy As location i would be much appreciated if they provide milk and tea. Changes towels.

The hosts were amazing. Super friendly and helpful. Enjoyed being able to see the harbour from our room.

The wifi was practically non-existent.

Friendly welcome was received from the hotel host picking us up at the airline flight terminal, and an equally friendly welcome was given at the hotel’s reception. The reception area contained of information pertaining to many of the Islands Very good activities and attractions. A great guest compendium was also supplied in the room. The room was a spacious studio type, with an incredibly wonderful view overlooking Half Moon Bay. A view also clearly shared by the many Kakas who came throughout our stay to sit on our terrace railing (or we were their view). The room was very well furnished with a sofa, table and chairs, and a wonderfully comfortable bed. It had also been pre-heated prior to our arrival and remained cozy throughout the three days stayed. Also had a wonderful kitchenette, which included a microwave and hot top. Ensuite bathroom was of a decent size and had a shower with exceptional pressure and plenty of hot water. Care did need to be taken, however, in turning on taps for this very reason. Excellently located, being only a five-minute walk (downhill) from the Oban Township and fifteen minutes to Golden Bay, where the Ulva Island boats leave from. Wi-Fi was occasionally intermittent, but not a great issue. Stronger Wi-fi connection.
