Utopia Hostel

Great hostel, very well located. The bathrooms were clean and the dorms were comfortable and pleasant. I accidentally left an important item behind, contacted the hostel, and they quickly arranged to send it to where I was staying. Everything arrived in perfect order. Highly recommended.

Usually I’m not the biggest review writer, but for Utopia Hostel, I’ll gladly make an exception. I stayed at utopia because of a festival called pasiwali that the owner also visited in the evening. It quickly became a very inappropriate situation when the owner decided to text me on WhatsApp, asking me that he wanted to buy me a drink and that he rather wanted to ‘wait for me to come back’, that being the hostel. I didn’t respond at that moment because I was shocked that he would use my private number for something like that. A few hours later, however, at 2 am, his messages got more extreme, and he asked me if he ‘needs to spend money on me’. You can guess for yourself what he means by that.   Because of this, I want to warn every woman who is thinking of staying at this hostel. This experience cast a shadow over what should’ve been a care free festival weekend. Luckily, my friends offered me to stay at their hostel the next day, because I didn’t feel safe anymore. They waited for me outside while I quickly packed my bags. Overal an experience I wouldn’t want to wish on any other traveler!

It felt like I was being a guest in someone’s house but they weren’t that happy that I was there. There’s a cat that stays in the entrance area and it smells a bit. The owner lives in the hostel.

I booked this Hostel because of its location. Most of the facilities like bike renting, Bus stops, and some tourist attractions were within walkable distance from this hostel. The second thing I like is cats if you want to play with a PuPu cat please book it without any hesitation. Some comments describe the rude behavior of the manager. Personally, it is not true in my case. I will rate some points following out of 5 Location- 5/5 Nearest food facilities - 5/5 (A decent 7-11 on just a walking distance) Bed size - 4/5 Hotel facilities - 5/5 (Fridge, microwave, Washing machine, Hairdryers) Room ventilation - 2/5 ( Just a small window and an air purifier is being used) Wifi - 5/5 Bike rental - 5/5 ( There are many shops that can give you a bike for rent around area of 2 km) Other - If you like cats please book it. How to reach here- You can take the Downtown Sighting bus from Taitung Train station (2- buses in one hour ) and stop near Xinsheng Post office and you can walk to the hostel. The bed size is not the same as given in the pictures. That does not mean the bed was bad. The room size is very small, if you have large bags then you can not keep your luggage inside the room. This is most suitable for backpackers who are carrying a single bag.

The place is clean, bathrooms are spacious and high quality, there is a free laundry machine and the boy who helped the owner was very polite and helpful. It's relatively well located as well. Overall I think it qas good value, and I would stay there again if I needed. The lobby closes at 23h59, which is understanble since it's desireble to avoid disturbing guests with loud conversation. However, it's the only place with desks, and sometimes I need to work late at night. This wouldn't cause any noise, but I can work after midnight (at least according to the rules).

Great hostel and very nice guy running it. I missed the bus and he was driving me all the way to Dulan with his scooter.

This was a fantastic stay. Silent bedrooms, above average mattresses, spacious bathroom with good showers and a host that really helped me out with some storage and arranging a taxi. PS. The hostel is straight next to a walkway that used to be an old train track. It is a direct, calm route to the heart of the city. Because of that it's actually a great location. My favourite stay so far. No complaints that i can think of

It’s good for night or two. Very well maintained and clean . The dormitory rooms are quite small. The communal space is quite comfortable. I was allowed to park my little foldable bike inside .I would recommend the place . It would be nice to offer advance payments for foreign tourists via booking. Getting asked to transfer money to a Taiwanese bank account is not convenient.
