floor mattresses actually very comfortable! room had A/C which was great. access to public and private onsen added bonus. staff very friendly and accommodating, very quiet at night, pretty view from the room as the hotel is on a hill.

The location is uphill and if those without a car may need to walk a bit and it will be tough for those with heavy luggage.

A way to experience traditional Japanese accommodations. Our room was quite spacious with a little verandah room with a great view. Private bath was wonderful. I love all the little touches that go along with the traditional setting. Location was very convenient to the historic town . It was a bit of a hoof from the bus station/ train station but doable. We enjoyed our stay. Nothing really. Just as a Westerner spending so much time low to to the ground takes some getting used to especially for sleeping. Pillow could have been softer

Very nice big rooms with everything you need. Very friendly and also English speaking staff. The dinner was amazing and the location, overlooking the town is very scenic. The futon was super comfortable. In some parts you notice it has been in business for a while and some facilities are a bit older.

Very nice, traditional experience. The view from our room was really nice, the staff (especially the restaurant ladies) were great, the onset was wonderful and the food was very yummy (breakfast was included with our room and was really good, and dinner was around ¥8,500 per person if I’m remembering correctly and was really worth it, a great experience). The town is great, definitely go to Takayama. It is a bit up a hill to get to the property from town, but the location is actually very good and the town is very walkable. There is also a hotel shuttle to and from the bus/train station.

Breakfast is excellent

Welcoming staff, room was small and cozy, onsen was ok, view froom window over the city was nice and the food was amazing. Inside onsens was a bit outdated and water was cold. But the outside onsen was nice.

Amazing traditional ryokan stay with incredible kaiseki breakfast and dinner. Lovely staff, beautiful rooms, comfortable futons. No issues with the property but it is worth noting that it is a 15 min walk downhill into town.

Gorgeous, gorgeous stay! Beautiful place tucked away on the hill with the most INCREDIBLE views, but easy walking distance to everything. The onsen was GORGEOUS, one of the better ryokans, and you can also hire a private bath if you want to share the experience with partner. Very comfortable and warm rooms, great breakfast. Shuttle to bus/train station. Will return!!

Amazing view, spotless and traditional room with ryokan, tasteful breakfast & welcoming people! The ladies at the breakfast were absolutely lovely ?! The people at the reception were very helpful and kind!

The room was extremely comfortable and spacious. The beds were comfy, the bathroom was clean and the whole experience of staying at a Ryokan was fantastic. The staff was friendly and spoke excellent English. The food was great too! We booked a room with half-board and it was a very interesting experience to eat a traditional Japanese breakfast (on our second day they provided more western options as the difference in culinary was difficult to us, but I was glad I got to have the experience.) The dinner was superb, I am pretty the best food I ate in Japan. We booked the private onsen which was very interesting, clean and beautiful. We didn't try the public onsen as we were uncertain of how to behave in one, so it was great to use the private one. It was only 1000 yen per couple and the staff explained how to use the space really well. It was an excellent stay, I really felt that I managed to experience a more traditional side of Japana. Also, the hotel was only a short walk from the touristic spots. It was at the end of a hill, but not difficult at all to reach. And the hotel provides a pick up service from the train station. Nothing, everything was perfect.

Generally a nice place to stay at. Nothing much to complain about.

Far from crowds, private onsen is nice, staffs are friendly, food was generous serving. One of the staff offered me scoop to clear the snow on my car. Amazing view from the room where I get to see fireworks. Had to climb the slope, the building a bit old (lack of maintenance).
