The property was a very traditional, almost family style feel. The futons were so comfortable and a nightly bath was luxurious.

If you want a traditional experience this is the place. Owners were a delight . We had the dinner and the breakfast and they were both a delicious banquet

This ryokan ranks among the finest I’ve stayed at during my travels. Positioned right on the riverbank across from the famous city market, it offers an enviable setting. The hosts and staff are genuinely welcoming, and the interior — down to every detail of the room — gives you an indescribable sense of being deeply in Japan. Food and service exceed all expectations. Everything

This stay was more than I could have ever imagined. I lived in Japan for 15 years and it takes quite a bit for something to blow me away but this completely shocked and stunned me. The staff was the kindest and most hospitable. The entire property was cozy and held so much charm. The breakfast every morning was authentic and delicious. The private onsen available was perfect after a long day on our feet or traveling. I can not wait to tell my friends about this absolute gem!

Wonderful ryokan in the very center of Kanazawa. During the two days we were there, not a single dish was repeated. Delicious! Very welcoming stuff. The place looks like a museum with many antique objects. Highly recommended A very small common bathroom. But frankly, we never had to wait our turn.

This was the most charming hotel/ ryokan I have stayed in in a long time. The staff were lovely, very accommodating and friendly. The room was very clean, overlooked the river, very quiet at night, mattresses very comfortable and the room had a/c but was not necessary. This room had a private bathroom but the hotel also had public bathrooms as well. The breakfast was excellent, opted for traditional home cooked Japanese breakfast with many little dishes to try, such a fun experience.

It was truly bliss. So homey, cozy, and thoughtful. The rooms were authentic, very comfortable and it felt like you were having a true Ryokan experience. The Onsen is big and sooooo perfect for a cold night right before bed. I liked everything! It gets a lil cold in the winter time— they don’t have heat, however once you turn your room furnace on it’s perfect and cozy!

Wow - this is really staying in someone’s home. It’s all a little musty and “antique” but so comfortable and the food was delicious. The bath is private which was perfect for our family with young kids. Breakfast is amazing (and both Japanese and western are available). The owners provided sweet small yukata for our girls and snuck in every morning to leave a fresh tea set. You can’t beat the location right along the river and near countless shops and restaurants. Also a very short walk up the hill to the walking path and temples. Key for July - the in-room AC works great! Really wonderful. The shared bathroom situation could be a headache if it’s crowded - the only showers are attached to the two onsen, which are locked when someone is using them - but we didn’t have any issues.

This a wonderful traditional Ryokan. It appears to be run by an elderly couple. Stay here for the real deal Ryokan experience. Also read up on Ryokan before you book. Sweet and attentive staff and a delicious breakfast. Also the Ofuro (indoor bath) was really nice. Wonderful vibe and a really cool nature scene in the middle of the ryokan. We had a delicious Location was great, a close walk to the famous morning market. It was also near the Rum Dance Hall, a wonderful intimate cocktail bar. Next time I am going to get a room with the river view. This Ryokan had a curfew of 11pm. Ryokan's typically have a curfew so I was prepared. However, Booking.com should find a way to include this information in the listing.

The owners and staff were all very welcoming and ensured we had a nice stay. We came with a small child and they enjoyed the attention from the owners who was very kind, even when the child was throwing tantrums. On leaving the owner stayed with us as we waited for a taxi and our child said they liked her after we got in the car. Nothing comes to mind. But it is asking me to write two or three sentences. So I am writing that much.

Run by a welcoming couple, great breakfast, lovely location (our room overlooked the river), really lovely and clean baths that can be used privately. Nothing - it is great!

I had a truly wonderful stay at this ryokan in Takayama and couldn’t have asked for a more authentic and memorable experience. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was exceptional—warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful in a way that made me feel instantly at home. The traditional ryokan atmosphere was beautifully preserved, from the serene tatami rooms to the calm, minimalist design that invites you to slow down and appreciate every detail. It was exactly the kind of Japanese experience I was hoping for. The food was an absolute highlight. Each meal was not only unique and beautifully presented but also incredibly delicious, showcasing local ingredients and seasonal flavors. Every dish felt carefully prepared and offered a true taste of the region. The shared bathhouse was another standout feature—immaculately clean, peaceful, and deeply relaxing. Soaking in the bath after a day of exploring Takayama was the perfect way to unwind and made the stay feel even more special. Overall, this ryokan delivered an unforgettable experience through its outstanding hospitality, amazing cuisine, and tranquil atmosphere. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience the heart of traditional Japan in Takayama.

Bath water was extremely hot. Also the tea set looked unwashed. The heating was uneven, leaving the bathroom and area by the window quite cold.

A wonderful, old-fashioned, family-run ryokan which provides authentic Japanese hospitality. On both nights we stayed, there were also groups in the ryokan, but we were given a private dining space for our meals and were looked after as if we were the only ones there. It is an older building, so don't expect everything to be up-to-date, shiny and new. What you can expect is warmth, character and friendliness. And the full meal service was wonderful. They catered for us as vegetarians without any fuss at all and we ate like kings (although we did choose to accept the bonito based dashi). There was a strong smell of gas in our bathroom, possibly from the hot water service outside the window. Fixing this would have made the stay perfect.
