Beautiful renovated Japanese traditional home. The owners were such kind people, very helpful, recommended local things to see and do. For a hostel it’s by far the best I’ve stayed in! Quiet, great location, they gave us free basket of ammenities to take to the local onsen. I wish I could have stayed longer!

The hostel is beautiful, clean and located near the train station. Watch out for the steep stairs though! Nothing.

The hosts were very nice and friendly, and the homemade breakfast was very good! I liked the hot kabosu lemonade. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

this was an unexpected favorite part of our trip! we wished we would have stayed for more than one night! extremely kind and thoughtful staff in a charming little mountain town. loved the welcome drink and a fantastic breakfast in the morning. we stayed in a private room — be prepared — it’s small!!! this didn’t deter us, though.

Gorgeous historic building with a modern Japanese style, our private room was absolutely perfect. It was spacious, large bed was so comfortable, quiet and such a lovely space to relax in. The common areas were lovely, clean and beautifully decorated. Great location in the town centre and so close to the train station and parking. The staff and owners are truly what makes this stay a 10/10! The warmest greetings, kind and friendly local tips and knowledge. Special thanks to staff for such a wonderful experience staying in Taketa. Special mention to Shun for his amazing hospitality and our new friend Takumi for sharing his cooking tips with us. Nothing

I don't remember what i booked but i was still suprised about the Room. This was the smallest Room i have ever Sleept in. I think it was called the Cabin, it's listed here as small Singel Room. I think the Price was a bit high for that really small Room. Still had a great stay.

The dormitory is in a lovely old house, with beautiful Tsuboniwa garden. location is perfect. The staff is incredibly kind and sweet and impressive. made us feel like if we were staying at 5 starts deluxe hotel. even the quietest conversations from other rooms can be heard, there are only two toilets, which creak and squeak in the middle of the night by foot steps.

We were on a cycling tour of Japan, the owners are amazing and made our evening there a highlight!

This was the best hostel I’ve stayed at so far! The location is perfect, right in a small, charming town with easy access to many amazing hikes. Parking was simple, right at the nearby train station. It’s free until 9 AM and very cheap after that (less than $1 USD for the whole day). The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and generous. Since it was a quiet period, they upgraded us to a nicer room at no extra cost. The hostel itself is beautiful, styled like a traditional Japanese home, which made the stay feel very cozy and authentic. Everything was spotless — the rooms, floors, showers, and bathrooms were all extremely clean. The whole process from check-in to check-out was smooth and easy. We also had breakfast there, which was delicious and well-prepared. Overall, it was a peaceful, relaxing stay with wonderful hospitality. Highly recommend! Nothing

Very clean property, comfortable beds, great atmosphere to relax in the lounge area, feels like home in Japanese style! Staff are amazingly helpful and kind to ensure you have a pleasant stay in the hostel. Their home-made breakfast is delicious, and they speak English which is very helpful. They are truly special and outstanding and I hope to go back one day. Taketa is a perfect location if you want to take day trips. We also had a car which was helpful to get to any attractions in the area.

The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly. She gave us a booklet with recommendations of where to eat and a hand drawn map of what to go see. She also helped us make a dinner reservation as many restaurants were already full. The bakery downstairs had a great selection of sweet and savoury goods. The station is only a few minutes walk away. We enjoyed our stay and regretted only staying one night. We hope to come back one pday.

Lovely, friendly, helpful, jolly staff in beautiful traditional wooden house, very close to the railway station. Great communal areas and kitchen facilities. Nice bakery/cafe in reception area, including a couple of gluten-free options. The single room I booked turned out to be a tiny split-level almost capsule-hotel-style space (the "cabin room"). Very funky but very cramped and no external window, so pretty stuffy. I think they should make the nature of the room clear at time of booking.

    Exceptional

Toilet is downstair that the whole only thing if you need it middle of the nite. The rest are great.

  • Engine customer Apr 2025

It's a typical Japanese style house. It has a lot of charms and history, as such, it also has slim walls which is why you hear your neighbours. The staff is very kind and helps you a lot with everything. As in other accommodations in Japan, check-in is unfortunately very late (4 pm), whereas check-out is already at 10 am. Still, I highly recommend it!

The staff made me feel at home from the moment I walked in until when I left. Cue is a very stylish hostel, with the most lovely staff, a great cafe/bakery and a beautiful natural environment!

The hostel was a nice blend of old architecture (e.g lovely central courtyard) and modern amenities. Staff were welcoming and had many suggestions for where to visit in town.
