Wanda Vista Urumqi

The pool - it was small and used for training people from outside the hotel. No privacy.

Even though the hotel is truly very nice, if it was not for the front desk agent Angela, I would not have rated my stay so highly. The Wanda Vista is a truly nice 5 star hotel with great staff. But the room, given to me initially, was on a high floor, facing south. The hotel, which can only supply either heat or AC, was set up to supply heat in late March. The room, even with the heat turned off, was very hot, about 27C during the day and 24C at night. I was really annoyed. Angela was very professional and understanding. she changed my room to a lower floor facing north. She made my stay very pleasant .

Aircon in the room didn't work. It was centrally controlled and hence room temperature is constantly over 28°C. However, staff was helpful by offering a cooling fan.

Good hotel, clean and comfortable. Only negative is how hot the rooms are - we went in March and the hotel aircon was not switched on yet. The windows in the hotel barely open so the rooms were stuffy, hot and uncomfortable. The hotel did bring us a fan.

Not so many in staff speak English. Breakfast could have more choice for western guests.

The design is really beautiful, both the room and lobby. Bed was comfortable. 1) You can't control the room temperature, and essentially must sleep at 26 C. I understand that there is a large difference in cultural norms between Xinjiang and Europe regarding the ideal room temperature for sleeping, but for a 5 star hotel I think guests should have control. To be fair to the hotel, someone did bring up a fan, which helped. 2) One of the reasons I chose this hotel is that it has a free swimming pool. However, it turns out that all guests must wear a swimming cap - a very unusual policy that could not be reasonably anticipated. A grumpy and rude staff member informed us that we'd have to buy a Y 200 cap to swim - so not close to being a free pool. 3) The Lobby lounge is advertised in English as being a cocktail bar - but offered no cocktails, and other than straight vodka had very limited options.

Breakfast buffet was great for a westerner. Location was very good next to a mall. Beautiful ambiance when you enter tye hotel. The air conditioner was not adjustable. Constantly too high which made sleeping difficult. When asked why the response is it is set between a number of hotels. No idea why. No internal laundry was a negative.

Cleanliness The breakfast menu was very limited for foreigners. There was supposed to be cable TV, but it only had limited channels.

Front line staff ignored us for a while during checkin. Other customers keep barging in front of us! Never expected that at all.

Location A bit pricey

Room was spacious. Good amenities in the room: comfy slippers, kettle, coffee, umbrella, ironning board etc. Hotel is situated quite far from the downtown in the new area of Urumqi. I would like to thank Sunny Li at the reception counter. She was very helpful, her english was good and she changed us the room to another floor due to sigerette smoke on our floor. Breakfast was good, not exceptional. It was very convinient that the big shopping mall was just across the road. The smoke odor was everywhere, in the room: in the hall on the floors. One day when i went out of my room, there were 10 people smoking on the floor near the elevator, there was no air to breath. After my complaints, the staff quickly moved to another room on the higher floor.

The hotel is excellent!!! Clean, perfect location, amazing staff, very attentive, I was really very surpriced with this hotel! You will not regret. every evening they had the local dance performaces in the lobby, so you could get a great satisfaction with the Uyghur Dances! No anwer for this, as I liked all !
