Carmen Suite Hotel

We were lucky to get the best room with access to the roof with a fabulous view over the whole city. It was also quiet and comfortable inside, including the bathroom and the lights that were good in both rooms. The breakfast was basic and more or less the same every day (boiled eggs, borek, warmed-up french fries plus cold cuts, vegetables, melon/watermelon/tangerines and some jams for bread), but that's okay. The swimming pool was also a lovely addition. - Internet is so-so, it was stable and perfectly well-functioning for video-calls but slow for videos and sometimes even websites (eg. watching 2k or 4k vid on youtube is not viable, 1080p even is a struggle). The annoying thing is you have to manually click on the wifi-settings in your device to authorize your device(s) like 10 times a day. - No dishes / stove / kettle, even though there is a fully functional kitchen with a sink, outlets and a fridge - so it's just a bit strange (missed opportunity to upsell the room). - IMPORTANT: When we paid in Booking in advance, we were charged totally ±100 EUR extra (on top of the original ~330 EUR cost that Booking showed), the second time without ANY notice, just 48 euro off the card. All because the hotel decided that they want to charge first 4 and then 8 euro per night for the air conditioning, which would be understandable 1) if it was showed in the price in the beginning, not post faktum, and 2) if it was optional, because in was October and we ended up not using air conditioning at all. Ironically we didn't even get the remote control on the first day and then we were first given the non-working one.

The location of the hotel is perfect, the breakfast and meals are great, the staff is friendly. I didn't find anything I didn't like about the facility.

The barman was very friendly and helpful and the pool was nice. However the hotel didn’t make good enough use of it. Hotel is in dire need of redecoration and update. The room only had 1 light in the living room and everything is dark and dinghy like living in a cave. There was also no ac in living area so the people in there couldn’t sleep in 40 degree heat. The room was very dirty, stained and ripped sheets, stained frayed towels, old smelly pillows, brown toilet and had to wear shoes entire time because the floor was so filthy. Cleaners came once in 5 days and just replaced tissue and towels. didn’t clean floor or bathroom and didn’t change sheets. There is a kitchen area in the apartment but there’s not even a glass provided let alone a kettle. Breakfast was 5 euro- was boiled egg, cheese salad and bread. wasn’t worth even 1 €, my kids never ate it. It seems management put no effort into the hotel, poor service, poor cleaning, very bad food and absolutely no entertainment anywhere even though the pool area could really be lovely at night.
