Quaint location along the river with panoramic views of the stupas. Overall stay okay but... When I paid for dinner (USD10) during check out, 1. Credit card transaction went through on my side but pending on merchant’s side. After waiting 30-40 mins, hotel didn’t want to swipe the credit card again or accept cash, so I left. 2. 2 hours later, hotel called to confirm transaction has failed and provided me details to perform cash transfer. 3. I’ve to find the bank with cash deposit machine, in towns I never planned to visit. Anuradhapura and Sigiriya are NOT big towns. 4. The cash deposit transaction wasn't smooth. Screen time lapsed abnormally fast. More details of account owner were required. I only managed to transfer on my 4th attempt. 5. The ordeal created inconvenience and my time was wasted solving the hotel's payment problem. For a mere USD10, it demonstrates lack of genuine hospitality on the hotel's part.

Abaya Mandapa is a hidden gem in Anuradhapura. The hotel is in a lovely place where one can see four Stupas from the hotel balcony, including Ruwanweli Maha Seya. Walking along the path on the dam of the “Basavakulama Lake” in the evening, at night, and early in the morning brought a sense of peace and tranquility. The hotel was beautiful, well-planned, and comfortable, with all modern amenities. Mr. Prasanna and his staff were wonderful and accommodating to our needs with a smile and a kind heart. We had three meals, and they were delicious, including the best roast pan we had tasted in a very long time None

We wanted to go out around 4am to attend for religious function. We came out and noticed gate has been closed and no security person to open the gate. And tried to find any staff member to open the gate but failed. Finally, I had to get the phone call for the No indicated in the web and some lady answered and as I understood she is from outside and called to the staff and opened the gate. This process took almost 45Mts and we got delayed for the religious function.

Excellent location. Absolutely mesmerizing view of the lake once you come out of hotel, right in front. Wonderful staff. Very kind, humble and very attentive to our needs.

Nice view, close to historic sites. Unfriendly staff unresponsive to our needs. Sleeping impossible due to noisy water pump running almost all night. Coffee not included in breakfast.

An oasis of quiet on a lake in Anuradhapura. The room was modern, tastefully appointed, immaculate, with a beautiful bathroom/shower. Even better was the balcony with an amazing view over the lake and four stupas. Breakfast (included) and dinner (modest charge) were delicious and generous. Owner/manager (?) and staff were welcoming and professional.
