San Gennaro Castello

We had visited this place 12 years ago and were overjoyed to find that Dario had not lost any of his wit and sense of homour. We even had the pleasure of his company one evening at a restaurant and also at breakfast. We recommend this place to anyone who loves peace and quiet and the stunning Tuscany setting.

We had a wonderful stay at Dario’s bed and breakfast. It’s a beautiful, old house authentically renovated. Beautiful views and an easy 40 minute walk to old town of Collodi. We stayed there in the last week of October, and the house was kind of cold, but there is a law in this area, that does not allow the heating of homes until November 1. Plenty of blankets available to stay warm at night. A few times Dario gave us rides to and from the Pescia train station (for 15 Euros). One time, our train was delayed by 20 minutes or so, and Dario patiently waited for us - even though it delayed him for some other commitment. Also, Dario was giving us advice on what to do in the area and how to get around. Overall we had a good time and would definitely stay there again in the future.

Very Good Host.

The host is very kind and willing. The room is located in a village and is very quiet. Bathroom was big. It is an old room in an old building. Room was barely big enough for four persons and luggage. No bal one or terrace. Nowhere to sit all together for breakfast or relax. Except from the beds. The village hasn’t got good signal reception and the WiFi was below expectations. So don’t expect to surf the internet or work from there.

Dario is a fabulous host! He certainly added a smile to our day. We had some entertaining moments at the breakfast table!

It's a lovely old building in a sweet village with wonderful views and near interesting towns. The towels were not clean. There are 2 tourist trap restaurants in walking distance, otherwise you must drive and then you have to return on that narrow winding road at night. I don't know how they are a bed and breakfast. He has only some packaged biscuits, yogurt cups, muesli, juice and coffee. A B&B provides some freshly prepared food. I know Italian breakfasts are simple, but everywhere else there has been fresh rolls, cheese, a boiled egg...Here, it's not worth eating.

Nice location with great view Family room next door, very loud, room 4 with windows above entrance with people coming/going, smoking Bed ok, but loud and a bit worn out Breakfast only containing packed food, unfortunately nothing homemade or fresh (fresh fruit available)

Beautiful setting and very friendly host, who gave great tips for local restaurants etc. Great views! Breakfast would be even better with some really good coffee.

Amazing hotel and location. And very friendly hotel manager like your family. There are lots of surprises and very famous football histories

Property is average village home.Clean and bed is new and comfortable. Host is funny and talkative. I like to talk to him There is no breakfast. Only bread, coffie(milk,tea, juice) and butter with jam all of them is packed. There is no cheese, tomat, ham etc.

You come to San Gennaro because its not a place to come. Its on top of a high promontory and its a very small town. It has no grocery or restaurant, but boy, what a view. We did discover within walking distance (850 meters) a restaurant called Fattoria di Petrognano. We liked it so much, we went back again (the eggplant parmesan is simply the best we've ever had). The hotel is situated just off the parking area for the small village, and the rooms are spectacular. Exactly what one envisions when you think of an Etruscan room. Wooden beamed ceilings, ceramic floors and colorful appointments throughout the room. We loved this place. Down the road is a town called Collodi (5-10 minutes away). Much to our delight, we discovered it is the home of Geppetto and Pinocchio, and also home to a few good restaurants. We ventured into Lucca from San Gennaro. The woman who operates the hotel, Anna, was just a delight. We were very glad to have stayed in such a great B&B. Our room was pitch perfect. Nothing not to like.

The place was amazing. The beautiful landscape. The village. The b&b itself. The only bad thing was that it was extremely hot outside and there was no air conditioning. We hade a fan but the room got very, very hot. So none of us could sleep very well. So during very hot days I would not recommend it but all other times this would be an amazing, beautiful place.

Not the property specifically, but the area is very quiet. Expect to drive 15-20 minutes to find anything to eat.
