Pine Inn

Great location, beautiful interior, welcoming staff.

We were then misdirected to our room, told it was on the first level through the glass doors. After a lengthy search, we found it on the second floor, up several flights of stairs, with no staff available to help. The room was small but acceptable. The bigger issue was the heat. The fan and light shared a single switch, making it impossible to stay cool without keeping the light on all night. After an 8-hour flight and a 3-hour drive, this made for a miserable night's sleep. When I shared my concerns with the front desk, I was taken aback to be asked, "What would you like to come from this?" Basic problem-solving should be intuitive in hospitality. The staff even agreed that our stay was not worth the price given the hotel's outdated condition and poor upkeep... This level of hospitality is especially embarrassing during an event like Monterey Race Week. With respect to the positive parts of my stay: parking availability (though lot was full) and the location

Nobody reached out after several complaints during our stay. The room description was wrong, breakfast was not communicated clearly at check-in and despite having attempted to get final answers about the room sending a photo, we were lied to about the room type. Overall very disappointed. Especially having paid peak prices for this hotel.

Wonderful

Parking was a challenge but otherwise a very nice place to stay. I love the history and vintage look of the hotel. Also a great restaurant connected for all meals.

Location was great and friendly staff. The bed was very uncomfortable, and the pillows were stiff and lumpy, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. It was also quite noisy throughout the night, with sounds that resembled furniture being moved, which made it even harder to rest.

There were not significant issues. I suppose I should have expected less than luxurious accommodations given the age of the property. My room was slightly musty and the mattress was lumpy. If your priority is being in the middle of the downtown area walkable to restaurants and shops, this location will work, but I can't say that I will stay again.

Parking good. No A/C

The Pine Inn is charming and historical, as stated in the property description. However, it is bordering on needing restoration and renovation. There is no elevator and there are three floors with tight stairwells that have short stair treads, making carrying bags awkward. The hallway on the third floor is uneven, leaning severely to the right. This was concerning, especially after having read the notice that the building has not been seismically retrofitted. The carpet in the room has seen better days. There is very little counter space in the bathroom, and no fan. The bed was comfortable, pillows were not (good thing I being my own). No AC, ceiling fan was sufficient but then had to leave windows open and deal with restaurant smells in the room. We stayed out as much as possible. We only found parking in the inn’s parking lot one of the two nights we were there. I wanted to experience staying in a historic building, and I can’t say I would stay in this particular one again.

Quaint historical lodging in the heart of beautiful Carmel. Warm and welcoming staff. Some minor noise issues between rooms probably related to the age of the building.

Awesome town and very cool hotel

Amazing location! So many great shops and restaurants near by. The hotel was very charming and cute. I was not impressed by the staff and hospitality, some of the staff seemed to be annoyed when I asked for assistance or had questions.

Right in the heart of Carmel by the sea. Property shows age but charming and location cannot be beat. Parking is limited.
