Solsicily B&B

The place served its purpose well. We needed an affordable place to stay at overnight that is close to the center, beaches and airport. This met all of those requirements. The facilities and accomodation overall were good, basic necessities and appliances were provided. Cristian was also a really nice and welcoming/helpful host, looking out for us during our stay. This was mentioned in other reviews but the streets indeed had some strange faces here and there but they’re all minding their own business and keeping to themselves, not trying to bother others, especially not tourists. Their situations are rather sad instead of scary.

The place has a nice spacious kitchen and it is very inviting to entertain yourself with you travel mates or other guests in the common area. The place overall feels like someone's house and it is very cozy. The host is very welcoming providing you recommendations about the area and helping out with whatever logistics. He helped me to carry downstairs my heavy luggage (the place is on the 3rd floor w/o elevators). The place is in the middle of an area of the city that has lots of murals and small alleys with cute bars and restaurants, it can also feel sketchy but if you keep yourself aware of your surroundings you will be fine. Cool place with a lot of character. The neighborhood looks a bit rough, but it felt perfectly safe and it's a short walk to the city center as well as the train station. It was very quiet, clean and well maintained, the wifi was fast and reliable and there's a shared kitchen. Good place to stay if you're on a budget. The shower was really small. It would be helpful if a soap dish was installed on the wall inside the shower to put the soap on.

We really liked the room — it was clean, and having our own private bathroom was a big plus. The shower was a bit too small, to be honest, but everything else was perfectly fine. The owner was super helpful and kind, always ready to assist with anything we needed. I would definitely go again without a doubt! ? The location was also great — just about a 7-minute walk to the center, which was perfect for shopping and exploring. Traveling around Catania was really easy too, especially since Uber wasn’t very expensive. Overall, a very convenient and pleasant stay! The street we were staying on felt a bit crowded at first, with a visible presence of immigrants and some street workers. However, they never bothered us at all — everyone kept to themselves, and we didn’t feel unsafe. By the second day, we realized the area is actually quite safe, but it's just something to be aware of when you arrive.

Very nice host, gave us a lot of usefull information. Big room, there was all that you might need in kitchen - kettle, microvawe, cuttlery and cups. Close to main station. Could be a bit cleaner - fridge was smelly and floor in room needs washing. A bit shady street, especially be carefull after dark.

Loved the location of the apartment, 10 min from the train/bus station and 10 min from Piazza Stesicoro and the center of Catania. Had a balcony, private bathroom with everything I needed, a big kitchen where you can cook your own food if you like. House is decorated in a vintage style, which I appreciated very much. Unique with a lot of old times charm. Cleanliness is perfect, host is very kind and helpful, if you ask him, he has great tips about Catania and the surrounding area. There is absolutely nothing I didn't like. Some people would complain that there is prostitution in the immediate vicinoty of the apartment, that you must walk up 3 flights of stairs without elevator, that the amenitirs are a bit old. But this apartment is not for fussy travellers, just for normal ones who need a clean room and experience the real Catanese life and hospitality. Thank you, Cristian!

Exceptional

The hostel is very well located - very close to the train station and less then 10 minutes from the city center. There are few restaurants and a bakery in the neighborhood. The owner is very kind and helpful, there is a very good contact with him. The local is located on the third floor, so if You have a heavy luggage be prepared for a long climb:)

Me and my family enjoyed the stay at Solsicily. The apartment was clean. we had a large room with a private bathroom, which was fully equipped. the biggest thanks to Mr. Christian for his willingness. He advised us the best places in and around Catania and helped us arrange our early departure by taxi to the airport (€22). Thank you and highly recommend. The road was too noisy at night, but nothing can be done about it.

The room was cozy and the host was incredibly helpful. One of the best aspects was the flexibility with check-in and check-out times. We arrived late in the evening and had to leave early, and there were no issues at all with this, which we really appreciated. The neighbourhood seemed a bit sketchy at first glance, but after spending some time there, we realized there was nothing to worry about.

Spacious room and bathroom, clean towel, big kitchen, amenities. The location is not really safe, the floor never been clean in the whole week we stayed while everyday the cleaner enter the room just to make the bed and throws our pyjamas against the wall. Air conditioning faulty and the bathroom was like a sauna.
