Location. At the time of the booking, I had specifically emailed the property to inform them that my parents are in their late 70s, one severely vision impaired and the other with mobility issues , and to allocate a room that is accessible by an elevator and close to the restaurant. At no point did they inform me that the elevator was not functioning. I would have never have booked this for my parents had I known. They allocated a room on the third floor which my mother struggled to access with her mobility issues. They promised them the elevator would be fixed but by the second day I had enough and booked my parents in another property. Following checkout, my parents had left the hotel when my mother noticed her gold earring was missing. They promptly returned but was prevented from checking the room they had just vacated. Such a shady thing to do. The gold ornament is as good as gone as no one called from the hotel to return it. Cleanliness was very poor - bathroom wasn't cleaned and a top sheet was not provided. Blanket used by heaven knows how many people was given. They had to ask for a top sheet and for the bathroom to be cleaned. Overall a disappointing stay.

This is my second stay at Madras In- Alwarpet. The hotel itself is clean and airy. The rooms are spacious enough with all of the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Remember, this is a budget hotel and while it is an excellent value, especially for Chennai, you should expect things like, some minor scuffs or marks on the walls or plumbing fixtures (faucets, etc) that are old looking. This does not affect the comfort of my stay and is usual for budget hotels. It is centrally located on a quiet street , the complementary breakfast is tasty and varies from day to day. The staff is helpful and professional. All in all, a good bet!

As someone else said, the Madras Inn is an unpretentious facility. great value for the money, and you simply cannot beat its location. Right in the heart of the city, and close to all the Carnatic music sabhas, if that is what you are visiting for, during Margazhi season (December). We also loved the simple but tasty breakfast every day. The staff aimed to please, and were quick to take care of all of our requests. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The rooms are somewhat small, with little space left around the two twin beds. But it will do for most people. Again, this is not a luxury style place, but it is well-priced and provides great value. The hotel is in a typical Chennai neighborhood, and will give you a good flair for how Chennai lives. These are minor suggestions for improvement, nothing that is glaring and should prevent you from staying here. (1) Breakfast starts at 8 am, perhaps an earlier start, even at 7:30 am would be more helpful (2) They should put some Body wash and shampoo bottles in the bathrooms, rather than the extremely tiny bars and shampoo sachets that they provide. And like in US motels, these can be attached to the walls and just be refilled. (3) More clothes hangers would be nice. (4) The breakfast area seats only 6 at a time inside. Either another table can be added inside, or in the winter months, in the really nice terrace outside.

The hotel is in a great location close to all the Carnatic music sabhas in Mylapore area. The hotel is neat and well maintained. The free breakfast is also good. Its a great place to stay for short stays. The rooms could be more spacious.

Room was decent for a night stay. Staff was friendly and breakfast was hot and tasty. Bathroom could use bit more cleaning.

Everything was so nice and the same with what they have described in booking, I started for a night and it was really comfortable and clean, they are also so helpful and nice.

Fantastic hotel in terms of location, hygiene,We were delighted to return for a second visit to this beautiful calm sanctuary in the heart of Chennai.Mr Mathaiah who manage the place and mohammed front desk exceptionally good in taking care of guests.

The property can not be called a hotel. It is a building 3 floors in a thick residential locality converted into individual rooms with bed, Cupboard and TV with attached toilet. No amenities, even 500ml. drinking water is provided on request only. No housekeeping absolutely & No room service. The whole property is One man show, the Manager, the Accountant, the Receptionist, the Bell Boy. Except the rooms there is nothing, which can be called the property a Hotel.
