I stayed in a private room and had a great experience. The location is perfect—everything you need is within walking distance, including markets, cafes, and shops. The hostel is very clean and well-maintained, with great amenities like a kitchen, pool, and comfortable rooms. They provide free water bottles regularly, which was a nice touch. The kitchen also has complimentary snacks, coffee, tea, and all the basics you’d need, plus a fridge for storing your own food. My favourite part, though, was the staff. They were absolutely amazing—so friendly, kind, and incredibly helpful. They went above and beyond, even helping my friend (who wasn’t staying there) arrange transport to Chiang Rai. They also helped me reorganize travel plans when my flights were delayed and assisted with my Laos slow boat changes. Truly 10/10 service. There wasn’t much I didn’t like. The only minor thing was a slight smell from the shared dorm washroom when walking by, likely due to humidity. Also, there weren’t organized social events at the hostel, but there’s so much to do nearby that it wasn’t a big issue.

Everything clean and very organized, staff was very friendly. Stayed in a 12 bed dorm and it was always so quiet:) Could‘ve been a bit more social; would have loved more activities through the hostel.

Nice amenities. Great staff. Very helpful in giving suggestions on where to go. Also close to the old town, right outside the wall. Sometimes there wasn’t enough body wash in the shower . Also it would be nice to have a bathroom for each gender on each floor

    Amazing hostel - felt luxurious

  • Engine customer Feb 2026

The curtains are not blackout so it can be hard to sleep sometimes, and the rooms are so hot. For a more expensive hostel compared to others around this is kind of a bummer.

The staff here are genuinely welcoming and incredibly helpful. They respond immediately to any request, and their attitude really sets this place apart. Unlike some properties that even charge for luggage storage after long stays, they kindly stored my small trolley for three days before check-in while I traveled to a hill station—despite me only staying for one night. That level of trust and hospitality is rare, especially compared to many hostels. Truly appreciated their kindness.

Everything That I have took the my shoes off to go to the bathroom

Great triple room for the price point. The girls working at the reception desk were so friendly and helpful with anything we needed!! If I return to Chiang Mai, I would definitely stay here again.

I didn't like that women were required to use the bathroom on the second floor even if their room was on the first floor. The women's bathroom required a sustained walk from my room, while the men's bathroom was right next door. I also wish the shoe cleaning service was cheaper, given how often my shoes got muddy in Chiang Mai. Lastly, and the biggest thing, was that there were people coughing CONSTANTLY in my shared room, which forced me to use a mask in the room to protect my health for most of the trip. I wish the hostel would either quarantine these travelers in their own room or provide us the option to move to another room so we weren't infected by them. (Yes, this is a reality with hostels in general, but many hostels will move guests around for health purposes, so I hope Hidden Garden Hostel considers doing this in the future to protect travelers.) That being said, once again, I'm overall really happy with the stay.

friendly staff, great location, good place for drying clothes, clean, not too many bugs, restrooms had stalls to separate sink from toilet from shower restrooms were a little small, not sure if communal bathroom slippers are sanitized regularly

Hidden garden is a very social and nice hostel - theres a lot of young people, attentive staff who will gladly help you with any request, very clean bathrooms that Ive noticed being cleaned multiple times a day, nice location close to the old city, and washing machine/drying machine in the hostel. They also provide water, tea/coffee, fruit etc which was incredible! The hostel is very popular - therefore its hard to book and the dorms are always full. During my stay the AC broke down (the staff took care of it very fast and offered solutions to sleep in different rooms which was very kind of them!) and the room smelled because it was so packed and there is no windows/ventilation - when you have 8 backpackers cramped in one room the result is not always fun, but thats the hostel life honestly so cant say much. Another issue was the pool - the water wasnt very clean and was a little smelly. It’s also pretty small but still a nice addition.

There are many things to like about this hostel – it's in a good location, the staff were very kind and helpful, it's clean and the atmosphere is lovely. The common area is a good space to meet people, chat and hang out and the hostel provides free beverages, snacks and iceblocks. We had a lovely time there. It may seem like this is a negative review but the below is intended to be constructive. The set of rules that the hostel shows all guests starts by listing all the things you shouldn't do - don't smoke, don't bring other guests etc and then details the fine you will get for each infraction. I get why they do this but it's not a very welcoming first thing to read – better to start with the positive, especially as it's such a chill place. Also – you need a key card to exit the dorm section of the hostel – there's no exit button available. I understand this is a security precaution and apparently, the doors open automatically when the alarm is triggered but I thought that if someone needed to get out quickly and they didn't have their key card on them for whatever reason, that could be very dangerous.

Stunning hostel, I spend there only one night so haven't had a chance to experience fully but the impression is great - beautiful ambient, super nice and helpful stuff, comfortable rooms. Bonuses: access to the kitchen and little swimming pool in the back, plus great location. I'd definitely stay again

I loved it!!! Everything about it

You can really tell that the staff is going above and beyond for you to have a comfortable stay. I was also lucky enough to meet amazing girls in my dorm so making friends was not a problem at all. The facilities are clean, washing takes 50 minutes for 50 bahts, you have a rooftop and a little pool, the communal area is open and a lot of light can come in. The beds are comfortable, room is spacious. The location is great, in walking distance of multiple convenient places: 7eleven, gym, massage, temples, restaurants, bars. I really recommend staying there! It’s a very minor thing but I would add a mirror in the female dorm or at least in close proximity.

Lovely facility, clean private room, staff super friendly and helpful. They have been amazing! Do not know how are the shared rooms as I stayed in a private, but I strongly suggest this accommodation. Noise during the night. Shared rooms clients have not been very polite and spoke out loud late at night despite the signage from the staff asking for silence during night hours.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean and nicely kept. Hostel was secure with key access entry after hours. Patio door was a bit hard to open and close.
