It is an amazing place to stay

We had an enjoyable stay overall and would like to start by saying that the hotel itself is beautiful. The staff were a real highlight – friendly, professional, and clearly well trained. Their service was genuinely appreciated and contributed positively to our stay. That said, given that this hotel comes at a premium price point, we unfortunately did not feel that the room offered good value for money. The shower in particular was a major disappointment. A shower directed straight at the wall does not provide a comfortable experience, and the problem was made worse by the shower door that does not close properly, allowing water to leak onto the bathroom floor. In cold weather, ending up with a wet, cold bathroom is very unpleasant and detracted significantly from the comfort of the room. We also experienced issues with the air conditioning while it was on heat mode. Although this was attended to, the unit remained noisy, and in the end we chose not to use it. Similarly, the fridge in the room was quite disruptive at night, to the point where we switched it off in order to sleep. Another aspect that limited the experience, especially during colder weather, was the absence of cozy communal spaces. While the hotel is visually stunning, it would greatly benefit from warm, inviting fireplace sitting areas where guests can relax comfortably. In summary, we enjoyed certain aspects of our stay and sincerely commend the staff for their excellent service. However, we would not return, as we believe there are other accommodation options that provide better value for the premium price paid. The food was exeptional, the staff were very helpful and location was splendid, though the rains almost spoiled our stay. The wet road to the hotel could be worked on.

Loved the upstairs patio in Presidential suite No swimming pool

We spent our last night in South Africa by booking one of the suites - Mona Lisa at this historic castle. The room was very romantic, with an outdoor terrace and a huge private roof deck where we got to stargaze. The check-in process was friendly and efficient, and we were treated to welcome drinks. However, when we were checking out at 10 a.m., there was no one manning the front desk as the staff were in meetings. This was very odd as 10 a.m. is the stated checkout time. Parking was free and available on site. One could also walk to the shops and restaurants in Clarens in about 10-15 mins. The hotel grounds were absolutely gorgeous, but it doesn’t offer any amenities on site such as a pool or spa. Lastly, we really enjoyed the breakfast options, which offered a variety of traditional and Western dishes. I really appreciate that the hotel encourages guests to be mindful with water usage, but then I found it odd that they continue to offer mini plastic bottles. Most of the hotels we stayed at in SA have converted to large refillable dispensers.

We repeatedly inquired and requested to have dinner at the accomodation at any price that the hotel could charge but were told that it's not possible as they have a sold out function to cater for that evening hence cannot be offered dinner.we then later saw a white couple which was not part of the function eating dinner as we were getting ready to go hunt for dinner somewhere else.on asking why they could have dinner and we couldn't only then were we offered dinner and the price was reduced to rectify the mistake I suppose, which we were grateful for but still left us feeling like we were being discriminated against for some reason.

Good variety of quality breakfast Dinner very good with big portions Good wine and drinks selection Staff very friendly and efficient Light sleepers may have an issue with the following: Blockout curtaining would have been more suitable as opposed to draw blinds. The outside night lights hampered our sleep. The little 'empty' fridge was noisy (as most fridges tend to be) and being right there in the room was distracting. Gabriella suite is situated directly beneath the dining room....one can hear footsteps and chairs being moved as early as from 5am.

The attention to detail , staff been very friendly , helpful , very clean , and felt like a Queen !!!! Food was absolutley top notch !!!! Thank you for making our experience so special . Would highly recommend .
