Garner Hotel Cornelius Lake Norman by IHG is located near Interstate 77, nestled in the heart of NASCAR country. It is just minutes from many racing attractions, including the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame, JR Motorsports, Kasey Kahne Racing, Martin Truex Jr. shop, Memory Lane Museum and Raceworld USA. Lowe's Motor Speedway is 20 miles away. Guests can take a drive through the Lazy 5 Ranch exotic animal park, discover the outdoors on Lake Norman, offering sailing, boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming and much more. The area around the lake is nice for hiking, sunbathing and picnicking. Numerous shopping centers, entertainment venues, two large bowling centers (NorthCross Lanes at the Lake and George Pappas' Victory Lanes), golf courses and tennis courts can be found in the surrounding area. A variety of restaurants and cocktail lounges are also nearby, including several within walking distance of our hotel. This hotel offers many amenities, including a free hot breakfast, free coffee, free wireless high-speed Internet access, free local calls, a seasonal outdoor pool, and an exercise room. Additional amenities include a public computer with Internet access, free newspaper, desks in some rooms, access to copy and fax services and a large meeting room, perfect for parties, corporate functions and family reunions. All guest rooms are well-appointed and come equipped with coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, down pillows, pillow-top mattresses, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards. I liked the location of the hotel. It is close to many amenities and restaurants. The staff was very considerate and their posts offered accessibility without feeling "watched". The fitness center has whatever equipment you may need to complete a workout. Breakfast was 6am-9am and had many options that can satisfy most palates from young kids who may love cereal to someone on the go who wants a bagel and coffee; or the contractor who needs a hearty meal for their long shift. The rooms were large and nicely decorated. Comfy bed very soft and nice pillows. there is an onsite pantry but there is a shopping center next door that may be more suitable. Room was very clean and well stocked. I didn't get a change to use the pool but it looks clean and staff was ensuring the pool was in great condition. They are in the the midst of renovations so they may already be doing this but I suggest upgrading the television to smart TVs where there are more options besides cable networks.

The property is being renovated, the pool is closed and there is construction still going on elsewhere. The room we stayed in had been redone however there was no lamps in the room, bedside or otherwise. The room was either lite by a bright mirror light or a hallway entrance light. There was no fan in the bathroom or clock in the room. On a positive note the breakfast was good, beds were comfy and staff was friendly.

Wake up call was a staff person running a leaf blower right outside the window at 5:50 am. So loud it sounded like it was in my room. I couldn’t get back to sleep. When I left an hour later, the staff was still blowing off the parking lot. There was really no reason to blow off the parking lot because it was pretty clean, no leaves. Just blowing dust over the cars . I asked the staff about it and they said that they were supposed to do it at 5:30 am every week per instructions from the manager. Crazy.!

I was disappointed with my stay. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, and guests have to use the back entrance. This information should have been disclosed before booking. The cleanliness of the room was below expectations. I found hair on the floor and in the bathtub, which made me question how well the room had been cleaned. The complimentary breakfast was just okay. I've stayed at many hotels with much better breakfast selections and quality. One of the biggest disappointments was finding out that the pool is out of service. The website did not mention this before I booked, and it was one of the amenities I was looking forward to using. Overall, the hotel has potential, but between the lack of communication about renovations and the pool closure, along with the cleanliness issues, I don't feel the stay was worth the price.
