The Abbey Hotel Donegal
About The Abbey Hotel Donegal
Located on the main square of the beautiful coastal town of Donegal, the 3-star Abbey Hotel is located right next to Donegal Castle. The hotel offers free WiFi throughout the hotel and a restaurant using fresh, Irish produce. Comfortable bedrooms each feature a flat-screen TV, telephone and individual private bathroom. Most rooms also overlook Donegal Bay and the River Eske. The hotel restaurant, The Market House, has a menu of excellent international cuisine. Guests can dine in a room full of character, and drink from the wide selection of champagnes, wines and craft or traditional beers. The Food Hall also offers light snacks and lunches and breakfast is available at an additional fee. The Abbey Bar, with its unique 2-tier interior design, offers regular entertainment with music almost every night of the year. The small harbor town of Donegal lies at the heart of County Donegal. It features many fine restaurants and as many as 21 bars in the ‘Diamond’ (the town center), on the hotel doorstep. We pride ourselves on offering a vibrant experience, with entertainment events held in the hotel during weekends and high season. While this creates a lively atmosphere, some noise may be audible from these activities. Our convenient town center location also means you may hear the natural sounds of a bustling urban environment.

Very central location with a good view of the diamond Reception area very dark

The staff were excellent. The evening entertainment was excellent, and I appreciated the location. The price met my expectations, and it was a decent hotel for a one night stay. The hotel was nice, but the rooms were very dated. It is in dire need of an upgrade. It is not a place I would bring my spouse. The hotel was clean, the staff was wonderful, but I couldn't get past the dated furniture and accommodations. The food was okay in the restaurant, but nothing to praise about.

Clean and centrally located No aircon and radiator was on in the room during a rare heatwave in Ireland

Our room was large and clean and the hotel is in a great location directly on the Diamond in Donegal Town. Walkable to everywhere. We had a nice stay! The only thing is that although it was lovely that our room faced the Diamond, the bus stop was directly below our window which was very loud in the early morning.

Cute property located right on the square. They had live music in the evening. It was a wonderful addition to my granddaughter getting engaged. Not the properties fault, we went to dinner after 8:30 and the only open restaurant was Indian food…which was excellent.

Clean, friendly staff

I worry about parking but had no issues finding a spot, and it was free after 5pm
-
No A/C - it was quite warm causing difficulty sleeping for all 3 guests.
-
Too expensive, poor room, facing the vent, good big size room, bed very uncomfortable, old spring mattress did not feel like i was in a hotel after paying so much and i asked for house keeping to clean the room only to come back to find it the exact same way, disappointed for the price

Great spot. Staff so helpful and friendly.

Totally convenient location.

I really liked this hotel and its location. I had booked a room with a double bed and a single bed for 3 people which is what we had been staying in our entire trip at different locations. I was charged an additional $60 for the same room we booked online because there was a 3rd person I was not happy about that at all. Don’t put 3 sleeping arrangements in a room if it’s not a 3 person room.

Nothing.
-
Central and nice vibe Hallway art kinda poor
-
had difficult parking as both at discharge and leaving coaches outside parked
-
Drunks on the corridors middle of the night .. no way you could sleep

Staff were lovely, very friendly and welcoming despite being busy and run off their feet due to the Christmas season. Breakfast staff were wonderful. Lots of noise at night, including the fire alarm going off. Entirely due to guest misbehaviour and not something the staff could have helped, but it soured our stay. It won't put us off returning though.

Great location and old world charm, on premise restaurant and pub was great!
-
