The view was the highlight giving endless enjoyment from our garret window. The bed though a small double, was comfortable and we slept well. A helpful addition in this heat was the fan. Good sized bathroom. Fabulous towels. The staff were friendly and helpful. The path opposite the hotel down to the beach was an unexpected treat. The shower was a challenge as was the key system for the door. Breakfast whilst good value, was underwhelming in that the coffee was warm, the toast too and although our cooked order was taken, it did not match what was then served. As a coeliac I was reluctant to eat the rice crispies and cornflakes as they usually have barley (which is gluten) added. Also, being served in communal bowls, the risk of cross contamination was too risky.

The location A very poor breakfast service and waited nearly 45 minutes to get served. I had to ask for the basic of tea/coffee and overall the flow of the food was disjointed. I would also add that the stairwell was covered in dog hair which left a grubby impression of the hotel. For a paying guest these issues could easily be dealt with.

Excellent location fantastic staff

I stupidly left a pair of trousers behind. When I phoned , the receptionist kindly offered to post them to me and I offered to pay the postage. Disappointingly, they never arrived, despite several phone calls to chase this up.

A better explanation of the parking situation, maintenance and cleanliness issues

I told them I needed a shower room and they gave me one. Most comfortable bed ever!! It was all looking very tired and in need of TLC but it's closing for good in October cm

View from our room, breakfast was good and fresh. Location is on a small hill, not much lighting in our room, not enough power points. No beer or lager on tap. No air conditioning.

The location and the room with sea view The building itself is a beautiful Victorian villa in a terrace but It all feels a little “tired”. We found out that it is closing at the end of the season for conversion into apartments which we think should have been made clear at time of booking. The restaurant was closed in the evenings due to lack of staff and breakfast was served by a grumpy waiter. Parking is a nightmare as you have to search for spaces in the surrounding streets.

Location to beach and The Strand. Friendly staff. Good breakfast (out of peak time). Unfortunately, the hotel is winding down to shut permanently in October 2026, with planning permission for flats/apartments. Because of this, it was evident that the hotel was looking quite shabby and was not being maintained any more. It certainly wasn’t like this 20 years ago or even 10 years ago. We felt sorry for the skeleton staff trying to juggle different jobs, whilst being as professional as they could given the circumstances.
