Astraea House

So much to love about Astraea House!!! The location, the home itself, and THE VIEW. The staff was so helpful and friendly! A short 15 min walk to the central Fira bus station, which will take you to any other major part of the island. Great food everywhere around, and a super great bookstore just a few feet from the front gate. We stayed a few places on our Greece Vacation, and this place was on the top of our list of homes. If you're on the fence about staying here, just book it and take in THE VIEW.

It is hard to put into words how incredible this property is. We were a family of seven looking for space and views in Santorini and found this gem. The many terraces and floors maximize the incredible location overlooking the Aegean. Opening the shutters and doors every morning was a special treat as we enjoyed pristine views of the ocean and sea breezes. And in the afternoon, no words to describe the sunsets. On an island where people gather in large groups struggling to watch the sunset and snap the perfect photo, you will not believe your luck as you enjoy a private and unobstructed phenomenal view of the sun going down over the water. A nightly treat. The main terrace has a lovely plunge pool, where we gathered and enjoyed the afternoon and hung out in total privacy. The stairs to the upper terraces were lined with bright flowers, making it postcard perfect. The rooms were spacious and private, with a couple of cave-style rooms my kids loved, and an enormous master, with doors and shutters facing two directions to maximize the view of the sea and the sunlight. The living room was spacious and well-appointed, as was the kitchen. We were surprised and pleased to discover that our stay included daily housekeeping service, so in the afternoons, when we arrived home, we were treated to a clean kitchen and tidy bathrooms/fresh towels. Finally, the peace and quiet....set back from the path by a long set of stairs, we heard nothing from passers by or neighbors the entire time we were there. It was so quiet and peaceful, we felt like we were the only people in Firostefani. This property is perfectly located outside the hustle and bustle of Fira, but only a couple minutes walk to the first restaurants and viewpoints of the village. In short - perfect location. Do yourself a favor and book this incredible property, and then relax and enjoy the space and the views! I must comment on the difficulty of contacting the host. Messages were not replied to for hours, and sometimes, not until the next day. This was frustrating, because sometimes, things are time-sensitive. Planning logistics of a family of seven is stressful and tricky, and I would have preferred more immediate communication with the host. She did not reply to texts or messages through WhatsApp. Everything was by email, which is slow. The one time I tried to call her, when we were checking out, she did not answer. Moments later, I called her again from the housekeeper's phone, and she picked up immediately. Not clear why she didn't take my call but took the housekeeper's.

We LOVED everything about Astraea House! The airport shuttle arranged for us was fabulous, the men who portered our luggage from the drop off to the villa were outstanding, and oh my goodness the villa! We had such wonderful space for our group to spread out, be it inside or out. Just a few doors down from the bookstore and a few more steps into town. We truly hated to leave! We didn’t like that we couldn’t stay longer!

LOCATION WAS WONDERFUL AND VIEWS WERE AMAZING! ASTRAEA HOUSE WAS VERY PRIVATE. WE REQUESTED TO HAVE SOME GROCERIES AND IT WAS NICE TO HAVE THEM UPON ARRIVAL. CHRISTOS AND ANNA WERE VERY NICE, MEETING US UPON ARRIVAL, TRANSPORTING OUR LUGGAGE, AND DID A GREAT JOB AT HOUSEKEEPING. WE NEVER MET MARIANNA, BUT SHE ANSWERED ALL OUR QUESTIONS AND ARRANGED SOME OF OUR ACTIVITES. ALTHOUGH THE HOUSE IN GENERAL WAS LARGE AND ROOMY FOR SIX PEOPLE, THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE BEDROOMS WAS A BIT INAPPROPRIATE TO HAVE PRIVACY. WE WERE THREE COUPLES AND ONE ROOM WAS VERY SMALL WITH NO DRESSER, LIGHT, WARDROBE CLOSET OR DOOR.

Perfectly located with a stunning patio and views. Smallest bedroom was in a mezzanine type area with a low ceiling. There was little privacy in this area and the AC didn’t really cool it down.

Amazing views, central location. Loved the outdoor balcony area, perfect for a group of adult travellers, comfortable living space. The jacuzzi was lovely, and daily cleaning and pool towels provided. Air-conditioning in all rooms would have made it more comfortable, particularly in the peak of summer.

This place was everything we hoped for and more. The views were outstanding and the location could not have been better. This is a traditional Santorini home and has a lot of character. The owner was very helpful and had someone assist us with our baggage, and also provided daily housekeeping. We were able to store our luggage after we checked out and pick it up after our excursion. The property is within walking distance to Fira if you are looking for nightlife. There was plenty of room for our party of 8. There were many steep staircases without railings, so it isn't the best for older individuals or those with mobility issues (which we did expect) based on the description).

The location is perfect - amazing views and very private. Great outdoor space to relax and take in the incredible view and sunsets.

I did plenty of research for Santorini, and I cannot say how good the location and the property is. The best in town and Fira has much more to offer and do than in Oia. Host went out of his way to help us get a wheelchair to move our in laws because Santorini is NOT for people with difficulty to walk...neither the house as you have to climb stairs to get to the property, but thanks to the wheelchair we made it work and everyone had a great time...You will not find a better location with the combination of a great house. I will definitely come back to this property. the hot tub is not a hut tub, just a cold water pool, but with the hot weather that does not matter much. The other minor thing is that the bathroom in the mid floor need some paint on the walls, shall be an inexpensive fix that can change the full image of the place....not an issue for us, but something to improve if I were the host.

We loved everything about the property! Location was excellent and the house was incredibly charming! The unique design as a former captain’s house, along with the amazing caldera views, made it an incredible place to stay. We really enjoyed watching the sunset from the private plunge pool and deck. I could have happily stayed here much longer and we were so sad when it was time to check out. Nothing...it was absolutely incredible.
