I’ve stayed at several Toyoko Inns in different parts of Japan. It’s a good, reliable, inexpensive and clean hotel. Gets the job done if you just need a place to sleep, conveniently close to the train station. A simple breakfast is included. Sometimes there are 2 Toyoko Inns, one on each side of the station, so make sure you go to the right one! Convenient stores are nearby. Friendly staff. As a bonus, Toyoko Inn usually has a few books in their hotel rooms that book lovers may enjoy (I am one of them). For those of you interested in eating Kitakata ramen, I asked the tourism office, and the staff said while there is no Kitakata ramen shop in Fukushima City, a ramen shop called 麺や うから家か serves ramen very similar to Kitakata ramen. I tried it and was really good. No bottled water, but not a problem since a convenient store is nearby. This hotel is located to the west of Fukushima station, and most restaurants and stores are located on the east side of the station, and there is a 10 minute walk through an underground walkway to the east side of the station.
