Location and facilities May be breakfast can be better

The hotel was spotlessly clean. The staff were excellent. We love the afternoon tea as well.
-
Thin walls, screaming children, Chinese music everywhere in the hotel, forgotton to do wake up call by staff, worn down structural materials, bad maintenance. Towels look worn, poor quality amenities

Spacious room, comfortable beds & fantastic location (1) Quite a few things ‘Under Maintenance’ / not operational (eg. lift button panel in one of the two lifts, certain gym equipment, steam bath) (2) There are paper cups in the gym but no water dispenser in the gym? (3) No complimentary drinking water in the room - There’s a water dispenser outside by the pool and many of the room occupants have to queue up to get filtered drinking water to bring back to their rooms. (It was funny to see an occupant fill up 5 bottles of water at the dispenser to bring back to her room) (4) Why does the security guard need to knock on the gym door to ask guest (gym user) to open the door so that the guard could access the first aid kit? Shouldn’t security guards have direct access?

Absolutely nothing. Lack of transparency and incompetency

The room could be brighter.

Location, cleanliness, staff… The duplex bedroom of The Pearl Suite took too long to cool down therefore disrupting sleep.

We arrived and been told that our level that booked got constructions during certain times. We then change the room by upgrading to colonial suites. At first, I thought it will be too much but listening to the what the room going to offer I'm excited. My first impression for the room - WOW! it's spacious and got massage chair! Comfy bed and it so relaxing with huge balcony that coming together. Staff, Elan recommend to us great food around and other useful information for us to enjoy the area. We had great time at The George and could not wait to repeat our stay here. We forgot our bathing suit and missing the opportunity to enjoy the pool.

Very nice hotel with a pleasant atmosphere. The room was spacious and comfortable. We also had a meal at the hotel and the food was good. Overall, an enjoyable stay. The room felt a bit dark, especially around the wardrobe area, where lighting could be improved.

The George is located in the heart of Georgetown and the building is a beautiful looking building with a nice balance between heritage charm and modern design. Photographed beautifully at night when it's lit up. Rooms were well presented and we totally enjoyed having the electronic toilet seat functions! Several of the staff did go out of their way to help in a friendly manner with directions and other requests, especially Syafiq the concierge and Elan at front desk. Unfortunately the negatives outweigh the positives. In my opinion, The George does not rate as a 5 star hotel (I have been to many others) - there were many things lacking. - To start, the check in process was not a pleasant one as the check in girl was unfriendly and seemed quite disinterested. I asked that she informs as soon as the room became available as we had travelled all night without sleep. She didn't do so. When I finally returned to the hotel around 2pm, another staff told us the room is ready (and may have been much earlier). - When I booked the rooms via booking.com, it stated there was complimentary afternoon tea however when asked, they said no, and that promotion was only for people who made bookings in April and May (I booked in Feb). I pointed out that that was not clearly stated on booking.com and the hotel should have that corrected. Due to the ambiguity, I felt the hotel should have honoured the complimentary afternoon tea. I kept following up on this matter over 2 days and Elan finally agreed to honour it. - The shower cubicle is showing some signs of mould and the water took ages to heat up. - Pool was advertised as a salt water pool but it wasn't. The water was very cold and not pleasant to swim in. The lounge chairs in the pool area were metal and did not have cushions on them. - No bottled water provided - we were told to go outside to fill up from this machine which does not dispense cold water just room temperature. There were no teaspoons provided to make coffee/tea. - No luggage rack in my room - Hairdryer was so weak it couldn't blow a fly In my opinion, the hotel falls short of being a luxury 5 star hotel and management should address some of the issues and train staff to handle customer concerns. It is concerning when the only thing that I appreciated was the toilet seat.

The location is very good, and the building itself is beautiful and well decorated. Overall, my stay was pleasant; however, for a 5-star hotel, a few aspects fell slightly below my expectations. For example, the breakfast selection was quite limited, and there was a fly flying over our table. Additionally, the room was not well soundproofed—we could clearly hear snoring from the neighboring room, children crying, as well as the sounds of switches being turned on and off.

Overall, my stay at The George Penang was okay. It's a solid choice if you value a good location for exploring the historical parts of Penang. However, if you are looking for a full-service luxury experience with all the typical 5-star amenities like a spa, you might want to consider other options. For a 5-star hotel, I was surprised by the lack of certain amenities. There was no microwave in the room, which is inconvenient for longer stays or for heating up leftovers. The hotel also lacks a spa, which is a common feature in hotels of this class. A particularly memorable, and not entirely pleasant, feature was the elevator, which had a very strong and persistent smell of durian. While some may enjoy the fruit, the potent aroma was quite overwhelming in such a small, enclosed space.

Location is great to walk everywhere Interior is starting to show it age for some of their furniture
-
Found some great restuarants nearby catering to Westerners.
-
Hotel is nicely done, modern and new. Location is good. Rooms were excellent, nice balcony etc. Pool was an absolute ice bath which the staff then tried to tell us was because it was a Salt pool... it gets no sun all day and they don't heat it.

Old world charm Only catering to one kind of traveler. Not really geared to international traveler. No warmth with any of the staff. Very transactional.
